how would you visualise a typical boards poster in terms of personality, lifestyle, etc. from your experience of the site?

i don't get the prevalent stereotype on here that the average poster is a jay from inbetweeners type wannabe bull****ter who couldn't get a woman if they tried. id like to give a lot of you the benefit of the doubt and say you're more than that, but who knows...

Rumour has it there's a few women knocking around the site too.
Female versions of Jay from the Inbetweeners, presumably.

Normal enough 25-30 year male demographic. The Internet is for everyman these days.

    Fewer women.

There's always the assumption that they're/we're a bunch of Comic Book Guys/Gals, but any Boardsie I've met or whose picture I've seen (several) isn't at all - a lot of them right f'ucking lookers too. :)

It's like a Sunday mass in here. Take a look around, this place is full of tomorrow's youth no one would admit to today. Ideal in a free open minded 2035 real world , now it's just a subject of ridicule for the majority. Boards.ie will actually have its own place in history. Just not today.

Disclaimer: I may actually have emptied the Hennesseys.

Prepare for being disillusioned and probably much nicer to everyone in future:

A surprisingly ordinary, even attractive looking bunch!

I prefer to imagine them as I had originally, but thank you.

I get that, it's nicer to imagine some opinions you come across here would not be held by "ordinary" people.

I doubt they are held by the people who profess to hold them in real life.

I would wager most of the big opinionated 'characters'' on here exist solely here and wouldn't say boo to their mother in real life

It would depend on the forum in my experience of various forum beers over the years. So some might be more stereotypically "geeky" than others. Even then there would be a broad enough mix. An After Hours beers, or the BGRH beers back in the day(about the best beers of all IMH) would have a very broad mix. My first beers was a mods one and I'll be honest I did walk into the pub expecting a gathering of Comic Book Guy's wearing "ironic" tee shirts, staring at their feet chugging inhalers, but was pleasantly surprised to find my prejudice dashed. There were even women present. :D Sure there was the odd stereotype in the mix, but all were sound people. And you would think as I did that the mod demographic would be stereotype central, but nope.

Some, yea. I've met a couple. Most would be pretty much the same as they come across here. If anything more friendly face to face. TBH I'm arguably worse in real life(™), certainly a worse know it all. Boards has actually toned down my online persona. It used to tone it down more mind you. I was much "nicer" years ago. Middle age grumpiness :D

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I picture a lot of neckbeard types with the khaki colored coat and german flag on the arm & the Palestine flag as their Facebook cover photo who support Paul Murphy, Clare Daly, Wallace and have an irrational hatred of the AGS.
