In my humble opinion this will not go unremarked on.

    Not with you around, anyway

Doubtful. He came out and admitted it and didn't try lie about it in any way. Slow news day, he is not the first to admit it nor will he be the last.

"One of the biggest problems we have is middle class drug users who are funding drug gangs," he said. "It is a quite a complex problem and not an easy one to solve," he added.

    Meanwhile............
U.S. Legalization of Marijuana Has Hit Mexican Cartels’ Cross-Border Trade

Agents on the 2,000 mile-U.S. border have wrestled with these smuggling techniques for decades, seemingly unable to stop the northward flow of drugs and southward flow of dollars and guns. But the amount of one drug — marijuana — seems to have finally fallen.

U.S. Border Patrol has been seizing steadily smaller quantities of the drug, from 2.5 million pounds in 2011 to 1.9 million pounds in 2014. Mexico’s army has noted an even steeper decline, confiscating 664 tons of cannabis in 2014, a drop of 32% compared to year before.

This fall appears to have little to do with law enforcement, however, and all to do with the wave of U.S. marijuana legalization. The votes by Colorado and Washington State to legalize marijuana in 2012, followed by Alaska, Oregon and D.C. last year have created a budding industry.

To be truly effective, a good narcotics agent must know and love narcotics. In fact, a good narcotics agent should have narcotics in his blood.

If he went to Amsterdam as a youngster and didn't take drugs, I would regard him as a bit...weird.

I never realised anyone shooting gear in a corporation block stairwell or a temple bar alleyway were middle class nor the top civil servants, CEO's and their kids puffing the magic dragon to come down off their devil's dandruff at the weekends. Drugs know no class.

All you need is drugs, bu du budu du du.
All you need is drugs, bu du budu du du.
All you need is drugs, drugs.
    Drugs is all you need.

Heard a fella singing that away to himself by Connolly station one day. Top chap.

Too true. The current setup of only having drugs ministers who have either never taken drugs or have to pretend they've never taken drugs hasn't exactly done us any favours.

And he ended up a politician

Aodhan O'Riordain is one of few politicians in this country who has left a good impression on me after meetings with them.

He's a genuinely decent person to boot.

That's cause he was all loved up on Mdma at the time.

Biggest pill monster going, that lad.

He clearly wasn't cut out for politics then.

I know a chap destined for the Dail someday who's probably dabbled in everything bar smack. Trust him more on the issues than the likes of 'Pure as the driven Snow' Harris.

The big news is that he's going to look at decriminisation.

About time we tried something else.

Thats a brave move. Not a hope in hell of it happening though. The fact he even mentioned it may very well alienate a lot of middle Ireland voters too.

    There's a Drugs Minister??

Apparently, it's the official title of the miinister of state for new communities, culture and equality. I don't undertand it either, but then it is the Indo.

    Perhaps it's the Irish translation...?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Yeah he tests out all the drugs that are confiscated at Dublin Port and the likes.

He also runs raves around dublin in his spare time.

You'd be very naive to think that there are not any high up politicians with various drug addiction/dependency issues.

This is a story somehow.

No don't legalise weed because then all the poor drug dealers would have to get jobs, and the state would get more taxes, and it would reduce garda, legal and prison costs and it has medicinal benefits and it's a plant made by mother nature and no more weed for me tonight...

When was the last time you walked through any city in Ireland without passing at least 1 drug deal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,448 ✭✭✭crockholm

It's Aodhan O Riordan ffs,to be constantly wrong on so many issues so often is a feat so herculean it would require drugs-and lots of them

Good on him for being upfront about it. No shame in saying you experimented, quite a lot of people have. Quite a lot of people continue to do so without any detrimental effect on their day to day life.
