Calculating a percentage when 1000 = 0% and 0 = 100%?

Hello.

I have a situation where I need to calculate a percentage of a number that ranges from 0 - 1000. however, I need the percentage result to be the other way around,

e.g:

if the number was 1000, the percentage = 0%
if the number was 500, the percentage = 50%
if the number was 0, the percentage = 100%

I tried a a whole range of equations with no luck and I cannot find any info on the web.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Get the regular percentage and subtract it from 100

(1-(x/y))*100

Where X is your number in question, and Y is the maximum of the range.

i.e. in your example above:

(1-(x/1000))*100

500: 1-(500/1000) = 0.5 * 100 = 50
600: 1-(600/1000) = 0.4 * 100 = 40
800: 1-(800/1000) = 0.2 * 100 = 20

Ive being agonising over this for a good 40 mins and it turns out the answer was so bloody simple..
