Got assaulted with a crowbar on Friday night...

Was walking home from a night out on Friday and the biggest, dirtiest, ugliest scumbag you've ever seen accused me of trying to rob his sisters handbag. He swung a crowbar with the curved side and I put my arm up to protect my head and it caught be on my ribs just under my arm pit. It ripped my shirt clean open and I've got a fairly big mark which hurts like fcuk. Could be infected. I ended up legging it home. Found out yesterday that he put another lad in hospital last week.

Im like a dog over it. I've 3 options I think. Do nothing and hope this cnut doesn't follow up on this, go to the guards and report him for assault or take matters into my own hands.

I don't want to let this fcuker get away with it. He's the type of scumbag who hasn't worked a day in his life, knows all his rights, wears his dirty stupid adidas tracksuit tucked into his socks, thinks he can do whatever the fcuk he wants.

Its scumbags like this that make a part of me want to just pack in everything and dedicate my life to turning vigilante and doing away with the vermin like him and his pals. I'd love to have the balls to do something about it, but like everything else these cnuts do, he'll probably get away with it.

Guards and a statement plus try to find witnesses who will vouch for you. You can't take this person on alone.

Go to the guards mate. Lets face it, 95% of boardsies would need the back up of a few mates to guarantee a successful dishing-out of revenge, so let the police do it. They'd actually encourage it, and there's no shame to it either.

:mad::mad::mad: Sorry to hear that happened to you. I'm sure this thug would have done that to anybody, you just happened to be the unlucky one walking by at the time. He'll forget about it about as quick as he'll decide to attack the next fella. I wouldnt go taking matters into your own hands though, with people like that, it would never end.

If, as you say, he put someone in hospital last week and he attacked you also, who else has he attacked? He's a danger to society and shouldn't be out in public. You should contact the Gardaí to get him arrested and put away. You should also warn people about his description and where you saw him so that they can avoid him.

Dress up as a sexy rabbit, seduce him and then whack him over the head with a heavy-bottomed frying pan when he's not expecting it.

He's been in jail once I think. If I go to the guards, whats stopping him from finding out where I live and getting a few of his friends to call to the door. I had a friend with me and he said he'd stand as a witness if I did go to the guards.

Tbh, I'd rather see a bit of damage done to him than him just getting arrested. Might stop him attacking people for no reason in the future.

First and foremost op you have to defriend him on Facebook.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,907 ✭✭✭✭Kristopherus

OP, can you contact the other guy that the scumbag attacked and check if he has reported his case to the Gardai. If he has, make sure you go as well. If he has'nt then suggest you both go to the Gardai. Scum like your attacker would get 10 yrs or more in the clink in the USA.

So you dont know this guy at all, you just bumped into him on the way home. If thats the case why would he call to your door if he hasnt a notion who you are or whereabouts you live?

Also your idea that giving him a beating will deter him from attacking others - highly unlikely, in fact more it would probably only lead to him dishing out a beating to some other poor unfortunate or you out of some retaliation if he knows you. Do you want someone else getting a beating because you thought it was a good idea to take matters into your own hands? You seem to think you can do whatever you want much like him, going around giving out beatings doesnt make you much better.

If you report him maybe hes already on the Gardai's radar and they are just waiting for an excuse to go after him. Maybe you doing it stops some other poor unfortunate getting a beating for no reason next weekend and ending up with more than a few bruised ribs.

Go to the Gardai and dont be an idiot thinking you should become a vigilante because you watched a few episodes of Daredevil on Netflix last week...

We live in a small enough town, I know who he is and he might know who I am. If not, he could easily find out and find out where I live.

I'll go to the guards in the morning.

Tbh,it sound like he know him or know of him and vice versa, and yo were the first poor ****er to come across him.

Sh!t like that has happened to me in the past(hidings included)what do ye do?

Fu!k him up and start a tit for tat thing,or go the guards,"rat" and possibly make it worse(probably same result Tbh)

Its a hard call, and people posting why you don't go straight to the guards probably have no experience of this crap.

(btw ah is probably the wrong forum for serious answers)

As much as we'd all love to deal with people like this ourselves, you'd probably only end up in legal trouble of your own, people like this will usually have no bother going to the guards if they're the victims. Armed assault is a fairly serious offense, and if he has the history you've said he does and you have a witness, the case is more or less a foregone conclusion. I've seen people get 2 years for even fairly minor armed assault. I'd also recommend going down to the doctor, firstly because you think the wound may be infected, and secondly, to document it, it won't work as evidence if it's not documented.

I'd be inclined to report it to guards automatically just to err on the safe side(the sooner you report it the better), & then later consider taking matters into your own hands. By the sound of it, there wasn't any CCTV in the area?

Do you think you could take him?

But seriously, who carries a crowbar around with them!! And I wonder what his sister thought of it!

There'd be no point in just hitting him a few punches and watching what happens.

LadyAthame as a lady mightn't understand the piece of mind that comes with proper revenge. I'd keep the option open. There's no point in lying to yourself. It's okay if you never get revenge, but at least you won't have deceived to yourself!

Just follow him home and run him over with a car so he can't see you.

So glad someone mentioned Daredevil because that's the exact vibe I got from the OP.

If enough people go to the Gardai, he will get put away properly eventually. Our justice system is ****, but if people don't do all they can to progress things within the confines of the law then they can't complain that the system doesn't work. Maybe the last 3 people he beat up didn't go to the Gards either? And if they'd just done things that way, he might not have been out on the street to crowbar you.

Vigilante justice is 90% of the time best left to TV shows, books and movies.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,556 ✭✭✭the_monkey

Let it go OP, scumbags like this get what's coming to them eventually.

Also do you think he's happy living the life he's living?

he has to wake up everyday and be him ... no wonder he's full of hate and anger.

Not worth risking more damage to yourself by pursuing it.

I sat on a jury a few years back, the accused was a lad who went after a fella who did something very nasty to a female relation, all took place in a twitching curtain country town.

The act of "getting him back" got somewhat out of hand, and the lad was killed. And due to the fact of the pre-meditation of seeking him out for revenge, the charge was murder and the verdict was guilty. The lad is 23 now and might be out of prison for his 40th.

Don't forget murder in this country is 'setting out to kill someone, or setting out to hurt someone and them ending up dead in the process' (my paraphrase)

Go to the cops lad, conduct yourself well and try and find a sympathetic detective.
