What's the role of isinglass in certain Olympic sports?

As it's sometimes used for glass, is it to film underwater sequences through?

Really scraping the barrel now. :)

No, sorry. Do you give up? (I'll have to come up with another question, though, which won't be easy... :/)

Does it thicken the water so they can manoeuvre slower? Total guess based on beer related uses.

No, nothing to do with thickening. :)

Isinglass is melted in warm water and left to set in cold water as it cools down. It's used by synchronised swimmers, they melt it and plaster it onto their hair to keep it scraped back, it won't budge until they wash their hair with warm water. I only found out because a little girl I know was preparing it for her team before a competition. :)

    Next question:

What connects Laurel and Hardy and Enya?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,734 ✭✭✭✭looksee

I saw that somewhere, but i have no idea what it might be, maybe it will percolate back later.

Ja, ja. Deine Frage als nächstes.

Ja, ja. Deine Frage als nächstes.

    Vielen dank.

An easy one. Berlin was partitioned between two sovereign powers until 1989. Which two European capitals are now similarly partitioned?
I'll be out for a while so google to check your answer.

    P.S. I'm back. C'mon, it's not that difficult.

    P.P.S. Think de facto.

11th, when actual paper was introduced? Or were there cards made of other materials before that?

No. The date I am referring to is when there is actual evidence, it does not seem to be known who originally invented them.

In that case, I think I'm out.

    Is Sarajevo one?

I hadn't thought of Sarajevo, but I don't believe it qualifies. Are the parts even de facto sovereign? Anyway I had another in mind.

I think it was the 14th century when they entered Europe. Have always been a fan of cards/card games and often buy "professional" decks. (theory11 is a great site if you ever want good but cheap decks*)

I don't know much about their history but remember reading about it a few years ago.

*I am unaffiliated with the theory11 website!

I always assumed it was 14th century from French soldiers returning from Egypt.

That's it IrishZeus, with no prior evidence or mention, a sermon was preached in the late 14C denouncing the playing of cards games.
