Nice one! The one that came with my OnePlus is way too short. Thanks.

Appears to work when you buy more than one as well (i.e. discount off each one).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,278 ✭✭✭banchang

Bought this to give it a try, however I have used these long leads in the past, & found that when I plugged them in, they did indeed connect, & battery icon goes green on iPhone, however battery then actually begins depleting

ie % charge goes down !

Thanks op, ordered two using different email addresses on grab one and used same account on niftyspot.

Chargers are usually 1amp or 2amp, with a longer lead you may need a 2amp charger due to voltage drop over the longer cable.

Probably depends on quality. I bought a long USB cable recently and even in a 2.1A charger its brutal at charging. Shorter cable no problem.

Incl delivery, so shipping is free with code.

Is that site reputable to be entering card numbers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 453 ✭✭Mandzhalas

Warning: my phone takes ages to charge with long cables. With standard cable full charge takes about 2 hours, with long cable charge is 16 and more

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,880 ✭✭✭MuddyDog

    Thanks OP.

You're only giving your card details to grab one. Have ordered same deal in the past, no issues.
Does take longer to charge with long cable, I only use my iPad 2.1amp charger with the long cable which helps a little...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,880 ✭✭✭MuddyDog

The code you get knocks 4 euro off the price which makes it free (aside from the 1 euro paid to get the code). I wonder does this code work on other stuff on the site.

The Android ones are great for Playstation Controllers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,277 ✭✭✭evolutionqy7

Wonder what these would be like. I got 2 meter cables from amazon before and all of them stopped working after a while. Plus charging times even from the 2.1 amp charger were brutally slow. Shorter cables charged it in half the time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,193 ✭✭✭✭jimgoose

I use an ordinary 1m USB cable to extend the charger on my Galaxy S4 and it does indeed result in a slower charge. It doesn't bother me as I generally charge it overnight. That's the deal with USB charger extension cables. It has to do with the internal resistance of the cable cores. Look for this sort of thing marked on the cable or possibly the packaging: 28AWG/1P + 24AWG/2C. The bit in bold, the second rating, is the one affecting power and the lower the AWG number (the wire gauge) the better the lead and the quicker the charge. 24AWG is considered quite good at the moment, I believe. "1P" and "2C" stand for "one pair" and "two core" respectively, and mean exactly the same thing.

Nice find OP. Ordered one there for 90 cent. There was a 10% discount on Grabone today. The cable came up as 24.99 on that website you order the cable from. Would it really cost that much usually? Must be better quality to the ones you get on ebay for 2 or 3 euro.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 576 ✭✭✭Fishyfreak

Ordered these cables before. Not great quality, broke after a couple of months. Plus Apple devices are constantly rejecting these as they are not "official cables".

Worth a go for a euro but don't expect miracles.

how did you get more than one ?
i was charged €25 for each extra one.

Showing €24.99 each before applying coupon/voucher code. And then is shows as costing €4.99???, which is shipping cost. WTF?

EDIT: Tried it again on Chrome and now cost is €0... so all is good.

Change the shipping option to "free shipping" right above it.

Did you buy 12 different coupons?
If you didn't when you enter your coupon code, it will only discount 1 item from your shopping cart.

Sadly this is true, dunno why I keep buying the bloody things cos they keep breaking on me, suppose I'm just hoping the next one I buy will be one that lasts even though they always break!

    Same here.

Anyway, I'm sure these will be no different but for €2.70 for 3 (lightning, 30 pin & Samsung) it's a no brainer.

True, you have to be more careful with them. I have exactly the same cable from the same supplier and must have that 2 years now and still going.
What I do now with lighting cables is put a drop of power glue at each end of the cable between the cable itself and the connector "sleeve". It seems to protect them a little better from accidental pulls.

Micro USB, not mini. But is standard across practically all phones now (apart from Apple).

I do always get mixed up, thanks.

Im guessing mini is the ones in camera as they are tiny?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 870 ✭✭✭WildCardDoW

It was the older connection before Micro, would have been commonly used in most devices around 2010 or so, not sure when Micro became more prevalent.

PS3 controllers use Mini USB, PS4 use Micro.

    Mini vs Micro

Managed to get five of these for €6
Dont do as I do an enter a makey up email address as you need to get the email containing the code

Broadly, yes. But be careful - modern kit tends to use Micro-B, but you see a fair few cameras using the physically smaller 4-pin Mini-B.

EDIT: I should add, as opposed to five-pin Mini-B, which is indeed as shown above.

The Android ones are great for Playstation Controllers.

Not the older PS3 controllers of course - they use the the less thin mini usb - not micro.

When you go to nifty you have to add the cable to your cart, either Androide or iPhone/iPad accessories, it will show full price, add code and make sure you tick box with free shipping or you will be charged .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,404 ✭✭✭✭vicwatson

That's what I did but didn't work. Put delivery details in etc and then it shows up "shopping cart is empty"

you can get these in dealz for €1.49 all be it at a shorter length (1m)... http://www.dealz.ie/sync-charge-cable-iphone-5-6

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,638 ✭✭✭moodrater

Eurogeneral stores like euro giant have 3m cables also, I have also experimented with 3m cables from dx, tmart, buyincoins. The voltage drop on all was too high so most devices wouldn't charge at high rate.
