New phone out today. Looks good as far as I can tell. The director feature is very interesting. Great specs but is comparable price of the flagships from the better known companies on this side of the world. Good buy anyway?

The 16gb is a fair bit cheaper than the 32gb S6 sim-free, with the SD card slot compensating for the difference in memory. It'll be interesting to see what reviews say about the camera and performance, particularly graphics.

Seen this yesterday. Looks half decent. Would like to look up some full reviews when they're out.

Anyone picked one of these up?
Thinking of using an upgrade next week to get one of these.
Currently using a Z1--hows it compare to that in particular?

Been using one a few months its nice, had a few bugs but sorted now, check out this from pocketnow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bc6YjTEd1cs you never know who you might see that video p..hint hint :)

Would that work over here? Price seems too good to be true anyway though, so maybe the site isn't even legit?

    That's the P8 lite not the P8

Coming v soon to Three I've been told. My mum has one and loves it. Real quality feel and great spec for the price. No brainer I think.

Can anyone confirm if the meteor one is dual sim.The sales lads in liffey valley say it's not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,467 ✭✭✭jimmynokia

No operator sells dual Sim phones in Ireland.

    Thanks for that.
Reading reviews though there seems to be only one model and that's a dual sim one.The micro sd tray doubles as a sim card slot.

That's put me off..would save a load of hassle carrying 2 phones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,467 ✭✭✭jimmynokia

Yip hate carrying two phones myself, maybe import a dual sim device ??

    Decision day is here.

Z3 or P8..Both on the same plan and same price.

Feel like a change from Sony though...

What you lot reckon is the p8 a good upgrade from a Z1??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 89 ✭✭sputnick123

P8 won an award there the other day so I would go for P8 myself. Voted best consumer smartphone in the EISA awards. I'm not allowed to post the link here so google it.

    Just picked one up today.

Really impressed.Very, very fast--ok Im comparing it to a Z1 Ive been using for nearly 2 years now but its a really nice phone.

Its flawless with everything Ive thrown at it so far.
Webpages are instant, has played any game Ive put on it without a hiccup and the UI is just amazing.I know people were saying that's its biggest flaw but definitely not.Its really intuitive and easy to get to grips with.

Got a great deal from the new Meteor shop in Maynooth.

He threw in a B1 Talkband and a Case and I got the phone free on an upgrade.

All in all really happy with it so far.

Definitely should be up there with the big boys when it comes to performance. If it had a Samsung badge on it I reckon it would fly off the shelves.

I see there have this phone listed on their website now. Would the people who have it recommend it?

Do you feel it would last a two year contract for normal everyday use?

Thinking very carefully about this phone
Would be going from an HTC One M7 to the P8

Cant afford HTC M9 at present and don't want a free M8s so any opinions on this phone and moving from my M7 would be really appreciated

    Fantastic phone.
Over a month using it now and its flawless.
You wont be disappointed if you pick one up.

    Thanks for the answers
    I'm very tempted
Only reservations are losing the boom sound speakers on my M7 and will I be able to transfer all my stuff to the P8 via bluetooth transfer tool like I did when I upgraded from HTC Sensation to M7. What did you guys do? :)

the way i do it is i have all my stuff on google plus (pics, music files etc) and my contacts in google too. If i change phone all i do is put sim in new phone and log into google and bobs your uncle everything is there. i do have to manually go into my apps to download some of them. if you used bluetooth to do it with your M7 i dont see why you wont be able to with P8 too.

If it's like G7 the apps are not hidden so just swipe right or left across all pages till u find it. Hold finger on all and I've to where u want.

Thanks for that...getting my home screen sorted
Anyone know how to stop the screen lighting up everytime I get a Facebook notification?
I've looked in the app settings on the phone on the facebook page and can't see
anything under notifications unless I'm missing something.
Never used to do it on my M7,and I'm loathe to disable notifications as I like to see them in the bar at the very top of the screen :)

    Try notification manager in settings??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,852 ✭✭✭Steve F

Thanks for all your help over last couple of days.I'm still finding my way around this handset, quite impressed so far think this is going to be a good handset

HI - I've recently been gifted a Huawei P8, love it so far. Can anyone tell me how to access the Huawei cloud services? It has apps for Hicare, Huawei Club, Skytone etc that depend on Huawei's own cloud services, but it doesn't seem to allow me to get a login ID in this 'region' - maybe Huawei cloud is only available in China?
    All advice appreciated.

    What's the battery like guys?

I see this is 450 Australian dollars. Seems like the best value for a phone with these specs.

The reviews are saying battery life is decent but it take a long time to charge . phonearena says 180 minutes to charge

Battery life is fantastic.I easily get 2 days.Depending on usage I can even get into the 3rd day.
Much better than my old xperia z1.

Battery is not a problem, as other posters have said. I get a few days easily, but I tend to leave it connected to my desktop computer at work and laptop at home.
What surprises me is the fact that the Hisuite pc messaging and contact management utility has to be connected by cable to this phone, even the most basic Nokia can do it via bluetooth.
Also, I'm having difficulty setting up an app to find the phone, that will run on android on the phone and on an iPad.
Overall, very happy with this phone though.

Hi, I recently bought one of these too. On my apps (viber, whatsapp, snapchat) does anyone know if there is a way of displaying the red number on the top right corner of the app icon that shows how many unread messages I have?

So, my contract is up in 42 days :p

And I'm starting to look around.

I used to have an Iphone4S, but changed to a HTC One since have a Sony Z3 Compact and for work I have a Samsung S3.

I really like what I'm reading about the Huawei P8 but its nice to get opinions from locals ;) ....

    So,

    whats it like to use?
Any apps give anyone trouble on it?
How much of the 16GB is used by the O/S?
Does it come with headphones, what's the quality of them?
    whats the camera quality like?
I assume the charger is the same as samsung / htc / sony / etc
are there good (non-walletty or non book covery) covers out there?

Any personal observations you want to add?

Red this article, it explains it quite well
    http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29396/~/what-is-the-difference-between-2.4-ghz-and-5ghz%3F

So basically you'll be able to connect to 2GHZ wireless but not 5GHZ.

    Modern routers can do both.
Are you trying to ascertain what your home wifi is?

Download this app. It'll scan local wifi and give you info on it including whether it's 2.4 GHz or 5GHz. You'll need to play around with it a little but don't worry you won't break anything.

Click the Eye icon and then select "A List".
That'll list all local wifi signals and inform you of the mhz of each. Simply look for your own home one.

    2437 mhz = 2.4GHz
    5180 mhz = 5GHZ

    Come on you're almost there!

What network are you on? Three have just released the Huawei Mate S - might be worth checking this out as it comes with a premium headset and free smart cover in box. 32GB memory with 3GB RAM, Looks really nice.
