Woman sues over exploding lemonade bottle

"A PENSIONER has initiated a High Court action against Dunnes Stores claiming she sustained multiple injuries after a bottle of red lemonade ‘exploded’ when it fell off a checkout counter."

What do people think?, personally it seems like she is looking for an easy payout, if the bottle fell and landed on her foot fair enough. It says she went for an x-ray but never says it showed any damage from the x-ray.

This is pathetic. In what way could it be Dunnes' fault. Sure the customer ahead of her would have put the item on the belt. What do they want instead of a belt? Some sort of hover belt that uses air to suspend the items.

Depends on how agressive the Dunnes Stores insurers are. I expect they are well used to the courts at this stage and would be out to fight this to the the bitter end.

He said Mrs Sheehy fell as a result of being struck.

Mr Justice Michael Hanna was told after being assisted by staff in the store, Mrs Sheehy attended St John’s Hospital where she was x-rayed.

It is the plaintiff’s case that in addition to suffering injuries to her ankle and lower back, she also sustained injuries to her left hand as she had attempted to break her fall after being struck by the bottle of lemonade.

Mr McCartney said she suffered sleepless nights following the incident and that she continues to experience some pain every day

it doesnt take much to knock over a 72 year old. a bang on the ankle by something that weighs 1.5-2Kg would be enough. If it happened as described then i dont see what the uproar is about.

I believed her story when she said she hurt her ankle. Then I got to the part where she also hurt her lower back, and I stopped believing her


Also if they were in a check out queue, her daughter would have been standing behind her...why didn't she catch her?

It is very telling what the article does not say.

She got an x-ray, but does not say that any injuries were found.

She "suffered injuries", but does not say what they were.

She experiences pain every day! That wouldn't be the aches and pains of every 72 year old now would it?

Just another unethical cash grab in my opinion.
