This weeks episode was a bit Meh in spots,I thought eg Mary Lou and the Tsar puns

More Louise Mary and the up the rah man and definitely more Michael D

The genuinely o’callaghan presser stuff on the migrants wasn’t funny at all,it sounded like an anti government piece rushed together for anti governments sake even though what was said I’d agree with,it was too rushed and not one bit comedic

The stuff last week on the plane over to Rome with Martin and Harris by contrast got the mix of caustic humour and political commentary right as usual with those 2 and was very funny

One of the funniest old episodes I remember was during the imf years with Merkle knocking at the door looking for Kenny in strong German accent English as Kenny and paschal I think were trying to hide money up on the loft😆

No show last Friday, does anyone know if there was a reason for this? Normally they announce when the season is ending but I didn’t hear or see of any such notice this time.

Season has ended, he talked about it on the radio show last week - back in the Autumn/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,670 ✭✭✭Peter Dragon

Thanks Francie, I missed that. Normally they end the very last episode with a “Callan’s Kicks will be back in the Autumn” message, but none this time around.

My day usually starts with meetings and it’s a very rare day I can turn on the radio before 10 anymore so his daily show is rarely on my radar unfortunately,

    Thanks again.

That Des Cahill/Marty Morrissey sketch was good.

“I think Ronan Collins was to blame for the bouncy castle.”

    “Makes sense.”

very good! He got new voice Catherine Connolly spot on. Also "varanker" still mentioned. And "write it down in your anal book my stór". Will have to listen again later

A bit of a hold-your-breath moment during the King Charles/Kier Starmer sketch, given what happened in Manchester yesterday.

I hope moving to a two-hour slot on the radio won't prevent him recording it on a Friday.

Agree 100% @tradfan1 this week’s episode was very good.

That was one of the best episodes I've heard, and I didn't get to hear all of it yet. He has Jim Gavin to perfection and Keir Starmer has such an unusual voice, but he has that perfected as well.

Catherine Connolly voice copy is too good. Maybe it was a cameo? 😃

The Heather Humphreys voice sounds better than the real thing.

No ‘Callan’s Kicks’ tonight - thought it would have been fitting to have an episode tonight before the vote count.

Micheal D has been taken to hospital tonight. Hopefully he's OK.

Oliver is going to be doing a lot of overtime over the weekend. At least RTE aren't paying for it.

It is not allowed under the election broadcasting moratorium rules.

Radio & TV stations are restricted in what election related material they can cover 24 hrs before and while the polling stations are open (referenced as the 'critical election period'). They can not broadcast anything that might influence a vote, while the process is underway…. even satire might influence someone as to how they might vote. Such restrictions obviously do not apply to social media, which as we have seen from this election can have a continuous and far greater influence on how the vote might pan out.

Coimisiun NaMean will be writing out to their licensed stations soon, asking for unedited recordings of output from 'the critical election period' to be submitted to them immediately, in order to check that there were no issues with their output.

The moratorium is gone and replaced by an Additional Care Requirement during the critical period. I'd say Callan's Kicks may still be sailing close to the wind though, and better for him to have more freedom to lampoon it now that it's over.

Really enjoyed that interview with Michael Palin, who is always entertaining and very likable.
