Single player content locked out of the base game and a collectors edition with no shagging game in it.
It's a sad day for the Parish

It's good to be skeptical, given Take 2's push for games as a service. They will definitely be pushing as much crap into this as they can, as it's just too lucrative for them not to.

Remember, you don't have to pre-order it.

In the days of digital keys, why would people preorder???

I've no problem with locking out non-canon Story missions, ie: extra stuff that has no effect on the main story. If they're locking actual required content, it's a crap move. I don't think they'll do that though. Still, first major Rockstar game i'm not pre-ordering. I'd usually have this already ordered, but I have a feeling I can't explain where I am doubtful about this. Don't know why, Rockstar have a proven track record, but me thinks the money is getting to them. Only time will tell.

Rockstar reassures fans over Red Dead Redemption 2's exclusive special edition story missions"Not part of the main story", it says.

Although the more expensive packages' wide array of boosts and items have raised eyebrows, most of the ire has fallen on Rockstar's decision to keep two story missions - Bank Robbery Mission and Gang Hideout - as exclusive to Red Dead 2's Special and Ultimate Editions.

The first exclusive mission, Rockstar explained in yesterday's announcement post, sees "Arthur and a couple of his fellow gang members come up with a daring plan to break in and rob the bank in the southern town of Rhodes". In the second, "the Del Lobos Gang has taken over a hacienda - clear this gang's hideout and rob their stash for a lucrative take."

Understandably, Red Dead fans were miffed that they might need to spend £20+ above the cost of the standard edition in order to play the long-awaited sequel in its entirety. However, Rockstar has moved to reassure players that the standard edition is still a complete experience, noting on Twitter that "The Bank Robbery and Gang Hideout included in the RDR2 Special Edition are side activities created specifically for that edition and are not part of the main story."

I'll be playing this on day one no matter what. Pre-ordering for sure, but probably the standard edition via PS Store.

RDR is one of my all time favourite games and was the first game where I really played a lot of multiplayer, it was excellent. What I really loved was that there was a serious learning curve. Skill was a huge factor.

I really hope the game will be closer to RDR than GTA as regards control and perspective of your character, but in particular, the MP game modes.

It would be nice if you could paint your wagon in the game.

    Gonna paint it good.
    We ain't braggin'
    We're gonna coat that wood"

    Gonna paint your wagon
    Gonna paint it fine
    I'm using oil based paint
    Cause the wood is pine!

Didn't they get in trouble for trying to include that in San Andreas before? :D

They didn't look remotely interested in making single player DLC for GTA V which is a concern

This has me concerned for the next GTA. I hope they don't let the quality of the single player campaign suffer as they will be more focused on the online.

Considering how much money GTA Online alone has made them, is this really a surprise for anyone?

With all their pre-order and special edition nonsense, I'm gone right off this now and I'm almost certainly going to wait for a sale. I have enjoyed GTA 5, but I'm less enthusiastic about the "games as a service" model they're operating and RDR 2 seems to be doubling down on that cause they'll make all of the money.

So just buy the standard edition and play the campaign if that's what you want to do.

I am also kind of concerned. Will the campaign be mediocre because they will be more focused towards the online?

No more pre-order or special edition stuff than most games.

If worried about potential mp focus, wait for release.

I'm thinking RDR 2 may actually focus more on single player DLC than online - there won't be anything on the scale of GTA Online due to the setting, there's only so much that can be added to an online mode for a game set in the wild west.

Im not in the least concerned. This will be awesome.

If they think it will make money they will come up with all sorts of ideas

Of course they will, but it will be have to be somewhat realistic for the setting. They won't get away with releasing a new horse costing $1 million every week :D

    $$$ > Realism.

After the money GTAO made and is still making (somehow...) there is just too much potential money left on the table for them to let the setting stand in the way of unicorns, ranches, casinos, pet cougars, horse-driven tanks etc.

Yeah they long-abandoned realism in GTA Online. They'll abandon it after a while in RDR Online because it's just online and doesn't affect the story or setting.

I have no issue with the Special Editions and stuff. I might go for the special edition just for the extra single-player content. Can't imagine me getting too deep into RDR Online if at all, same as I was with GTA Online. Just doesn't appeal to me as much as the single-player, and I don't think they will have skimped on the single-player in favour of Online.

GTA V as a single player standalone would have still gone down as a fantastic and successful game. The online didn’t seem to have any negative impact on it.

Aside from the promised SP DLC that never happened...

I have faith this will be an awesome SP game, but i'm not as excited as I would have been pre-GTA V. I can see myself caving on release day and getting it, but I'm not waiting with bated breath.

I wish they brought out one or two single player DLC's for GTA V but alas it never happened hopefully they do a decent single player campaign in this game like they done in GTA V.

This was a MAJOR disappointment for me and has be worried for the future.

The lack of single player DLC's just showed the shift in direction from anything single player related to the absolute cash cow that was online. And it's something that definitely won't change.

The lack of single player dlc with gta was awful for the lads trying to solve the Chiliad mystery.
Years spent trying to figure out how to get the jetpack and Rockstar just turned it into a crappy piece of the online game
