Hi guys, im considering doing applied bioscience next year. however, i only did biology for the leaving and struggled at maths. would it be unrealistic to go into this course without physics and chemistry and a bad grip on maths or is it doable?

Well the entry requirements for Applied Bioscience are a D3 in Ordinary Level Maths and there is no requirement for a Science subject - so in that regard, you've already exceeded the minimum requirements to do the course.

In the first semester there is a Maths module called Essential Mathematical Skills which is really just a revision of some aspects of the Leaving Certificate that are useful to you in the context of the degree e.g. Scientific notation, calculations, some statistics.

Same with the Physics and Chemistry; if you had done them already you would coast through 1st year, but most people in your course will probably not have done them and the syllabi assume no prior learning.

Of course, goes without saying that the necessary slog must be put in to do well :)
