Fat Burners?

    Hi,

I was considering purchasing a fat burner - was looking closely at some type of Green Teat Extract with 40% EGCG. However, I'm not sure if it is a waste of money.

In terms of my diet it is pretty clean:

    Weetabix
    Salad/Pitta,Orange,Carrot
    Apple
Pasta & Veg / Veg Fajitas / Coconut Curry / Potates & veg / Sweet Potato & veg
    ~2 slices wheaten bread
    x2-3 coffee
    x2-3 tea
    Protein supplements.

All in I'm getting 2g protein per kg bodyweight.

I just want to shred off a little bit of fat (or reduce water retention - whichever the issue really is).

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks.

Yeah, none of them seemt to stand up to any scrutiny. So coming at it from another angle, how do the fitness competitors get to the low bf% for their competitions?

    All kinds of drugs...

Naturals: Complicated carb cycling, 100% diet adherence, ephedrine and caffeine. Look up ultimate diet 2.0

most likely in 99.9 % of cases as said above, drugs.

What drugs are we talkign about here. Are they legal drugs? I assume that in terms of natural methods LeanGains is not an option?

    Why?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,593 ✭✭✭funkey_monkey

    Why?

Is it not more of a long term approach which keeps you at a lowish bf% level from which you still have to do something to get into competition shape?

No-one is in competition shape all year round.

    Not legal

Steroids for one has a knock on effect, it makes your muscles bigger so can make your leaner as the more muscle you have the more calories your body burns by just sitting on a couch for example.

The main drugs taken though to lower fat are Clen or Ephedrine. Both are prescription drugs which are both illegal in most countries. They used be taken by people suffering from asthma and it was discovered they had a fat burning effect.

For long term health though you have no idea what these drugs will do to you so are better off just sticking to a solid diet and good gym workout.

Even speak with a proper nutritionist and have a proper diet plan made out for you. Or try something like MyFitnessPal which counts your macros and helps with weight loss.

The bolded part just isn't really true , the most significant thing that steroids do is emulate great genetics, this is a heightened response to training, and decrease in recovery time. It means you'll get those newbie gains for significantly longer, not matter how sh*tty your programing is.
Combine Steroids with Great genetics and you have a perfect storm of Swole.

It is certainly true (at least with testosterone). ''In men, testosterone plays a key role in the development of male reproductive tissues such as the testis and prostate as well as promoting secondary sexual characteristics such as increased muscle, bone mass, and the growth of body hair.''

I use herbal life tea... I was told it was a fat burner eh... It's not so no surprise there... It's a nice drink to replace coffee but it's definitely not a fat burner and it is expensive...

The drugs they are talking about are steroids, and similar drugs. As well as prescription drugs that have other desired effects.
They are being a bit extreme in their bluntness imo. Sure at the elite end of competition, everyone is using some sort of pharma assistance. But you aren't looking to be an elite fitness model right now. And the fact is that you can absolutely get leaner and in better shape with out steroids.

I don't know what your current condition is like, but if you had currently had everything dialed in perfectly, and had reached your max genetic potential, you wouldn't need to ask the above questions.

The solution is simple. Eat perfectly, train close to perfectly.
    Implementing it is obviously harder,

In other news the sky is blue and the grass is green.

Read the entire sentence. He wasn't disputing that test promotes muscle growth. He was disputing that steroids make you leaner by building growing muscles to burn energy on the couch - that's not how they work.

Lol oh right I misunderstood. How is it that they help you to lose fat anyway?

And OP I actually tried a fat burning supplement before, didn't notice any effects on fat loss but thats not to say they don't work.

If you are able to work out harder, at a higher intensity, and more often, you'll burn more energy.
They'll also act on adrenergic receptor in fat cells to increase lipolysis (fat breakdown).
The usually rules of energy surplus/deficit still apply but its possible that energy burned through androgenic effects could take a small surplus in a net deficit.

This is my favourite fat burner:

    Or this:
    IaMUa0p.jpg

    Joking aside:
Caloric deficit is the only way to achieve low body fat. They say supplementation of BCAAs and L Glutamine can help prevent muscle loss during a caloric deficit, and there is some experimental evidence to support it. They're cheap enough so I'm sipping a bottle of them during the day while I'm on my current cut.

I've heard of some 'spinning' classes where you combine both of those.

Cycling will burn mucho calories if you out in the kms and intensity.

Just be careful if your carbs are low as its not fun then

Why would you pay money to try and burn calories you are consuming during the day :/ Don't consume the calories and spend your money on other things, like lycra workout clothes.

I have great things about fat burners one of the main benefits is extra energy which we all can do with these days

The weight loss is probably down to other factors, like a better diet, rather than being because of the herbal tea.

Honestly I was always sceptical about fat burners, but 2 weeks ago I bought T6 fat burners from discount supplements, and I have felt and seen results almost immediately. Dosage for my first week was 1 a day, up to 2 a day now and feeling great.

Having only been 2 weeks I would recommend them so far, gave me great energy through my workouts but I do tend to feel a bit weak sometimes during the day... 30 euro for 60 capsules.

Is your diet still the same as it was 2 weeks ago?

Yep, drinking more Green tea though. Roughly 3-4 small cups a day.

So you eat the same and lose weight? Even the fat burners don't claim to do that

I never claimed to have lost any weight what so ever?

    Burn money

As stated in my previous posts... Added energy throughout my workouts, which in turn I felt and looked leaner. Could be due to decreased water retention from T6 or from added intensity during workouts due to the fat burners.

How do they add energy if you're not consuming more energy? You also said you felt weaker.

If you want energy then a pre workout or coffee would be more like what you take but fat burners don't even claim to boost energy since one of their aims is to reduce your consumption of energy

    Ingredients:

    •Caffeine
    •Capsicum Extract
    •N-Methyltyramine
    •Cranesbill Extract
    •Cocoa Extract
    •Acai Extract

Both Caffeine and Methyltyramine - both stimulants

Fair enough but they don't claim it's for an energy boost.

And it's why I suggested a coffee pre workout.

Not having a go at you, chief. Just it's a bit sketchy when it comes to info and fat burners in general are a bit sketchy as it is.

There are a few studies showing NMT may actually interfere with fat burning.
Its the major constituent in beer that causes increased gastric secretions and boozy cravings, its used in Japan specifically to increase appetite.
Also It probably isn't a stimulant, just due to it's chemical structure.
    It's also metabolized extremely fast.

If you haven't lost weight, then you haven't burned any fat, you aren't leaner.
Even if you decreased water retention (which fat burners don't claim to do) your weight would still have decreased.
You are probably looking hard to find results.

€30 for 60 caffeine pills is very expensive.
