Was pointed out to me, Halfords is selling the Polar RC3 GPS Watch and heart rate monitor for €80 (normally ~€240). I'm not a Polar user, but that's a really good price (it's currently €252 on Wiggle, and £150 (sterling) on Amazon.co.uk). Don't know anything about this watch, but I think AKW uses one and may be able to recommend.

Cheers buddy, a great bargain there and just reserved myself one.
First time Polar integrated GPS into one unit and seems to fair well.
Of course Polar does HR monitoring very well

DC Rainmaker has a decent review too

    Jaysus that's mad money!!

Great watch and the precursor to the current M400. More than just a running watch with different sport profiles available.

    Ger Coors Light? !

Picked up mine yesterday only to return 45secs later. Was alarmed at the amount of debris under the lens.
    Luckily they had a replacement.

Tried it this morning on my last long 20 mile + for London this morning.
    Garmin distance - 21.05.
    RC3 GPS - 21.20.

    Interested on what others think.

HR worked a dream. No spikes!

Change the battery in the H3. they could be sitting there on the shelf for 2 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,145 ✭✭✭baza1976

Changed the battery twice so far today, with no success. Wet the strap also. Is there something else in missing? I think I'll take it back today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,468 ✭✭✭sconhome

Are they new batteries? (Have to ask!)
    Moisten strap with saliva.
    Put it on.
    Attempt pairing from watch.

If no connection transmitter is likely to be faulty. Watch & strap & transmitter go back to Polar normally if there is a warranty issue.

Yeah, batteries are new. .purchased them this morning.

    I'll try the saliva thing

Just back from run with my other polar FT1 and no issues with it.

Went back to Halfords. They sorted me out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 650 ✭✭✭inigo

I've just reserved one for collection. For some reason the final price is 63 euro, which I will try and lower with my Axaplus card... :D

Can anyone tell me if I can transfer data from the watch through and android app? Or does it have to be through PC/Mac?

And can it be charged directly from the wall through the standard micro usb connection?

EDIT: 64 euro including 20% off as per post above.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,402 ✭✭✭ger664

Will charge via a standard USB Adapter.

I have one reserved in Liffey Valley if anyone wants it. I had to change plans and got one in Portlaoise instead. First to PM me gets it...

By the way, I got a further 10% with the axaplus card. Under 60 euro! Quite a steal!

From the manual. The HRM needs to be paired. I haven't tried the the HRM I got as it picked up my existing one straight away.
Pairing a New Heart Rate Sensor with the Training Computer
If you have not paired your training computer with a heart rate sensor before, pairing is performed
automatically when you start a training session. Wear the training computer and the heart rate sensor and
start by pressing START. Searching for new heart rate sensor is displayed. The training computer
searches for a heart rate sensor signal. Heart rate sensor found is displayed when the the training
    computer finds the signal.
Wear the heart rate sensor and make sure that you are not near (40 m/131 ft) other heart rate sensors.
    1. Go to Menu > Settings > Sport profiles > Sport > Heart rate sensor > Search new and press START.
    2. The training computer starts searching for the sensor signal, Searching for new heart rate sensor is
    displayed.
    3. Once the new sensor is identified, Heart rate sensor found is displayed. Pairing is completed.
    4. If the search is not successful, Heart rate sensor not found or Other heart rate sensors interfering.
Move further., Try again? YES / NO is displayed.
    5. Select YES to start the search again.
    6. Select NO to cancel the searching.
    7. To return to time mode, press and hold the BACK button.

Transfer is via cable. The RC3 is the past version watch, it syncs to the polarpersonaltrainer.com website through Polars own Websync software.

IIRC it is PC only software.

You can charge from wall or any usb port with the micro usb cable.

    Hi Ted,

Just swapped a hrm from another box.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 94 ✭✭SprinterSacre

Have one of these available at €80 in Galway if anyone here is interested. Working perfect and only used once (used with old hrm strap). Only reason for sale is I prefer the Garmin I already have.

    Cheers.

So the gps stopped working about a week ago. The battery doesn't last as long as it used to. I have the receipt from halfords. I beleive there is a 2 year warranty. Do I bring it back to halfords or do I send it to Polar.

    Thanks

I would probably bring it back to Halfords first of all anyway. They will probably just send it back to Polar anyway. If my experience with Halfords is anything to go by you may be quicker sending it back to Polar yourself, they are pretty useless. My bro had problem with his RC3 recently and sent it back to Polar, the whole thing was sorted in a few days, new watch sent out. They seem to have a decent setup for returns.

Contact Polar directly through their website http://www.polar.com/en/support/contact_us/email_polar you will get a RETURNS number from them which cuts out the crvp you will get from the retailer.

Once you get the number send it directly with copy of your proof of purchase and your issue will be turned around within a few days. As it is end of line product at this stage the retailer would be returning it too and there's no need for a middle man in this.

2 year warranty is right with Polar.

Just to check first though, you haven't inadvertently disabled the GPS in the sport profile?

Battery life shortening is normal in rechargeable products but if it is excessive put in your claim anyway. You should in reality be getting approx 10 hours GPS time between recharges.

There seems to be an ongoing issue with those Polar RC3 with regards to battery life. My brother had to return his less than month old watch as the battery was dying during activities even after a full night on charge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,468 ✭✭✭sconhome

With R=1 and N=20 or so thankfully the only issue I've seen with the units has been pairing issues with HRM after the batteries have been replaced - but that is a simple enough reset.

The only think I wonder about is as these were being circulated out are the batteries being killed by a long shelf life without any charge. A lot of the similar generation Garmin suffer the same shortening battery life - FR10 for example

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,402 ✭✭✭ger664

Batteries can develop a charge memory from not letting them fully discharge before charging them up again. No need to do every time but do it regular.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 Vincepl

Bought this back in July, got it for €72 (guy in Halfords gave me the AXA bonus as there was an issue with my reservation and I had to wait a few days) and was fairly happy with that.

Being using it mostly as a watch and as a HRM on bike rides so fairly limited use.

Charged it fully at the weekend and it had a good 80%+ charge left in it before checking it this morning and finding it completely dead and won't charge.

I suppose I'll contact Polar as above.

My HRM stopped working ages ago, watch still works fine though, could I return just the HRM or would they want the watch also?

Is the battery dead on it? Not a warranty issue batteries run out and need replacing periodically

Tried a brand new battery and the watch still wouldn't pick up the signal.

You will need to break the pairing and repair them again through the settings system on the watch.
