The return of Kell Brook tonight. Think he will have too much for Dan but coming back from injury is an unknown. The win tonight should set up a big 2nd half of the year for him with fights against Mallinaggi and Khan expected to be lined up.

Haven't had a look at the rest of the card as yet, anyone of interest?

Although I need Special K to win for my accumulator to come through, the fight I'm looking most forward to tonight is Garry Russell Jr. and Jhonny Gonzalez. Should be a very good fight, great clash of styles.

Frankie Gavin and Adam Etches are on the Brook undercard.

Meanwhie Nonito Donaire won by second round KO on his return to SBW, delighted for him

To be fair it he hadn't won he would have had to hang up the gloves.

Wont be staying up for the Russell Jr. vs Gonzales fight but it should be a good. I would favour Gonzales in this one.

Very true but I firmly believe that Donaire still has another world title in him.

I probably won't stay up either as I have loads of essays due next week so I need a proper sleep but I'll catch the highlights sometime...I think Russell will win a lopsided decision....never rated Gonzalez at all, think Russell's speed will get him in and out before Jhonny can throw...Jhonny might earn a late KD but I expect a near shutout from GRJ.

    Gavin fight about to start.

Hope Brook gets taken into the late rounds at least tonight. That leg injury was horrific and it'll be interesting to see how well he's moving.

I agree strongly with you on Gonzalez. Brilliant puncher, but a slickster like Russell should have far too much for him. There is always the puncher's chance, but Russell on pts is where my money is going.

Have Brook in rd 9/10, Dan is durable but you'd have to reckon Brook will be really motivated with the return, home advantage and the huge paydays to come if he can retain. Could be a really good fight.

    Frankie Gavin is horrendously boring.

Agree, my heart sinks when I see him on a Hearn card

McDonnell way too easy to hit, will be badly exposed as he moves up

British boxing commentators are horrendous. They can be the most biased commentators at times but then other times they completely turn on their guy. Baffles me.

You beat me too it. The most uninspiring high profile boxer I have ever seen. His style and punching numbingly' boring. They could use Frankie's fights in Gitmo as a form of torture.

Looking forward to seeing Etches now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,449 ✭✭✭megadodge

This is a good fight. Khomitsky is tough and will keep plugging away. It's my second time seeing Etches and so far he's reasonably impressive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,449 ✭✭✭megadodge

Wow, Khomitsky does it again. Tough man.

Great punch. Very very impressive for a 40 year old after so many lost wars

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 931 ✭✭✭Chrissybhoy

Etches was getting tagged a bit easy from the start. Great KO in all fairness

He's won plenty of them as well. Hard b@stard.

Classic case of why I think the jab to the body is an iffy punch.

When is Brook entering the ring?

About ten mins time I'd say

Brook looks in great shape, think he will get this done in 5-6.

He's always been a very good analyst. He has a good working knowledge of most boxers he's analysing and he's honest, while still remaining positive.

Fine start from Brook, is Dan's stance unnaturally wide?

    Total miss match here.

Dan looks like he's in slow motion. Total mismatch.

Hard to see how this guy is the #1 by the IBF

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,317 ✭✭✭HigginsJ

It won't matter but Dan is getting away with so many low blows it's crazy.

Hard to see how this guy is the #1 by the IBF

Hard to know, also just checked & he is not ranked in the top 15 by any other federation.

Good stoppage from the corner....bring on Brook - Khan now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,496 ✭✭✭RoryMac

Impressive from Brook but hard to judge with Dan being completely out of his depth

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,317 ✭✭✭HigginsJ

Great stuff, ideal come back for him, now let's see if Khan has the cojones to get into the ring with him.

Brook and Khan would be a superb fight.

Dan was outclassed, but at least Brook showed no ill effects from that machete attack. He looked as classy as ever.

    I'd love to see Brook/Khan.

Love that. Brook calling out anyone in the division like that...respect

Who are people picking brook vs Khan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 931 ✭✭✭Chrissybhoy

C'mon Khan he has to fight surely. Hearn summed it up perfectly Khans idol Wembley stadium massive money world title

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 972 ✭✭✭Deiseboy01

Thurman fight would be hugely interesting. Won't happen though.

Khan will not meet Brook unless its for a final payday. He ll get a crack at Mayweather or Pac I'd say. I don't think he fancies Brook.

My money would be on Rios this summer and Brook will box the ears off him.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,428 ✭✭✭Talib Fiasco

I think Khan will duck personally. I think he'll look for a rematch with Maidana tbh and then try and get at the winner of Floyd/Manny. Hard to pick a definite winner between Kell and Khan but I think Kell would win a UD with the help of a KD...better ring general and to slick. Khan's speed would be his only advantage.

If it's not Khan I reckon Hearn will get JMM. They have offered Khan serious money to get in the ring (more than he would get against PBF) but I think he will dodge it. Brook would wipe out Rios, pointless fight.

Brook/Marquez would be a great great fight...probably the only fight he'd actually take considering he's so close to retirement.

It would give him one more chance to win a World Title at a 5th weight division. That would surely be an attraction for him.
