Hey, has anyone ever worked the ESB Summer placement for students? Just wondering what hours and rate of pay was offered? What areas of Dublin is the work based and what kind of jobs are on offer? Thanks a mill for any info :)

I did it for two years, the pay is fairly crap, it's a 39 hour week, you'll most likely be based in the Electric Ireland HQ in Santry in Dublin

Thanks, ohh like how crap? Less than €10/11 p/h? Is it phone work or data entry type stuff? Did you have weekends off? Thanks a mill

It was in and around €1600 a month when I was there which works out around €10.25/hour. The work depends on what section you are in, I was on the phone a lot, others never had to make calls, others were in IT etc.

Have they began the interviews yet?

Why would you describe that as 'fairly crap pay' for what is fairly basic work? It's well above the minimum wage.

At 10.25 an hour, this is just about enough to cover bills, rent in Dublin, pay loans and save for an upcoming college year. Minimum wage is not in my opinion any way near enough to survive to keep your head above water these days.

Two years ago it was 1500 a month and you would most likely be based in Santry - other places include head office on Baggot St. and maybe Harold's cross. Don't think you could land an office job paying much more for 3 months so it's worth a shot. Of course you get weekends off, hours were 8:30-4:30 for some and 9-5 for others, out at 4 on a Friday. 5 days of paid holidays as well and of course serves as valuable CV padding.

Can anyone tell me what to expect from the phone interview? Is there another interview after that?

    All competency based stuff.

    Had the interview yesterday.
The office was huge and pretty intimidating to be honest but the interview itself was fine.
I was only asked one question on each of the competencies everything else was really reallly basic stuff.
Best of luck with yours mate!

I had interview in office last week. It was fine just asked what doing in college etc and then a few questions to give examples of teamwork etc. They said it would be a couple of weeks before they would let me know anything. Fingers crossed. Good Luck

They asked me questions based on my college course, my cv, then questions on teamwork delivering results and customer service! They also questions about the Esb why I applied why should they hire what skills would I bring to the company :) hope that helps! Think that's pretty much all that they asked!

dear me do they really take that long to make up their minds, most companies would come to a decision within days!!

I'll let yee know tomorrow if I got it or not, the wait is killing me!

Has anyone else heard anything ? Starting to get annoyed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 SurelookHolmes

I didn't get it unfortunately. I was told 650 people applied and that only 1/3 got face-to-face interviews.
Best of luck to anyone still waiting to hear back!

Hard Luck :( And they rang you to tell you that ? Still haven't heard anything at all, assuming I haven't got it either at this point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 SurelookHolmes

Yeah, it was kind of odd because they'd left me a voicemail while I was in an exam and I had to ring them back this morning.
They explained in detail why I didn't get it and it had a lot to do with the amount of detail I answered the questions in.
Yeah, when I asked after the interview when I'd hear back they said the 7th.. so it's late enough.
All the best anyway, there's hope yet if you still haven't heard back!

That is so strange that they went through so much hassle to tell you you didn't get it , so weird ! Ya when I asked , they told me within a week and my interview was on the 6th :S

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34 Msquack

I got a call last week saying I didnt get it, told me I did really well etc and the same thing that my interview needed more detail and to focus on the STAR method in competency interviews in the future.

hard luck mate, had a second interview last week, well it was more like an informal chat, certainly nothing as difficult as the first interview, was told would hear by end of the week but nothing yet, called today and was informed that a decision still not made.

It would appear this is one difficult place to get a job but fingers crossed :)

folks for anyone who has been successful how long did you have to wait for references to be checked, did anyone also have to do a medical questionnaire as opposed to an actual physical?

    cheers
