Maybe you are falling into a deep sleep due to the alcohol and are sleeping in a creek inducing position but its all speculation.

Id visit a doctor if i were you.

Is there a chance that you are chronically dehydrated and alcohol is exacerbating it?

Interesting topic, I actually came here to post about it, I think I did before and was told this wasn't a medical advise forum, so I'll just relate my story and
see if there is any feedback. Anything at this point would be great.

About 6 years ago I was a heavy drinker and had been for years. Never drank before 9pm (weekdays) but had a btl of wine each evening for years.
Traveled for about 8 years from 18 and drank like people in the scene do for all those years. So basically from about 18 on I was a moderate to heavy drinker.
Did some drugs etc but stopped when I was 23 or so. When I was about 32 I start getting pains in my legs, mostly the calfs and thighs. Thought it was just tearing
as I played a lot of football. Then it started in my arms and joints. Very worrying, kinda like flu. Thought the worst obv and went to get it checked up.

After various tests, ECG (legs and arms), MRI, Liver tests I finally got a biopsy and they found there was inflammation in my muscles.
They said they didn't know why but I should give up alcohol for 6 months ad the inflammation can be caused by alcohol consumption.
I've never really found any other source of info on this as I just didn't bother looking it up.
Ofc I didn't, I just put up with the pain but noticed it was much worse after nights out.
Finally I'm in the middle of the 6 month break (off since NYE) and there is no change at all.
Like zero. I'm running and cycling a lot but the pain is still there, same as ever, afte 3 months break.

So idk man, in your case I'd say it's more likely that chair you were sitting on for ages, the bending over the table etc.
But the Doc does reckon to some extent that there a link, but I don't know about short term.

Nerve damage is a well established consequence of alcoholism for a lot of people: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcoholic_polyneuropathy

Nerves heal very, very slowly, though. So it could be years before you see any real changes, if that's the case. You should probably stay off alcohol anyway, given how much you were drinking. Also how is your diet?

My diet is very good. I'm ideal weight and muscle mass. I've no other damage that I know of. I get yearly check ups from the Doc and and always in perfect shape bloods wise.
I take supplements (vit B and multi) and don't eat junk food. I'm not sure what else you mean?

I do eat a lot of red meat, but also a lot of fruit and veg.
I'd say the main thing missing from my diet if anything is fiber and fish (twice a month).

I'm not sure if I was a chronic alcoholic really, and I always ate well so I'm not 100% sure I fit the profile.
I wont deny however that some of the symptoms are present.

What is both interesting and depressing is that I was told a number of years ago to stop for 6 months, when
symptoms began to appear and I didn't listen. I did cut down a lot however and was told it was defiantly non-progressive.
It's also interesting to hear that no change will be noticeable for several months, I thought maybe after 10 weeks I'd see something.

Do you have any advise in this area on what I can do? I know it's not a medical forum, but hints.

I have to do a 1/2 marathon this weekend (I'm still very fit and active) but after that just plan to eat loads of the correct vits
and just do yoga for health. I can;t really fathom the idea of being off booze for years, that said, this time last year I couldn't fathom
being off it for 6 months, however I'm half way there and looking forward to completing the full term.

    TIA.

Also, I will say that there is Zero chance of me drinking seriously again. But I will want a night out from time to time so it may be a game management issue.

I am not a medical professional I just remember reading about those sort of problems before.

Drinking a bottle of wine every night for several years is way past the line into chronic and excessive consumption though, don't kid yourself about that.

Yeah, ok, I think that's fair. I guess it's just my perception as I have always held a good job and am currently employed at a high
level in a large company. I guess I always figured that I can't be that bad cause I know people who drink way more than me and they seem fine.

But I guess that makes it easier to do. Tough road ahead!

Right lads. Last Tuesday I woke up with a mild crick in my neck. Nothing major. Went out drinking that night and when I woke up on Wednesday I could barely move. The pain in my neck was incredible. I don't know what happened. Anyway I had a slight bit of recovery over the next few days. I went to a mates house on Saturday for a few cans and a game of poker. The pain came back unbelievably bad, tear inducing nearly. Couldn't sleep that night. Layed off the drink for a few days and had a can yesterday. Low and behold, the pain returned. Excruciatingly bad.
As I said it feels like my neck muscles go into spasm with a bit of drink.
It can't just be a coincidence can it?

If you casually drink i don't think it d be anything to worry about id imagine there's an underlying issue that is being made worse by alcohol?

Your best bet is to go to a doc get it checked out especially if the pain is as bad as your saying and its been reoccurring.
