I thought the army were going to need to use an IED to get the door off the Presidential car... I'm sure Christy Burke could have probably rustled up something from his shed..

Why is the parade being led by German made VW cars?

Is it a subtle way of telling us who is boss?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,657 ✭✭✭CountyHurler

Aidan Power is good at this sort of thing..

LOL.. Did you see him high fiving Susan Kirby and giving her a hug after the interview...

Brings me back to when ATA security done most of the floats.

    Huge free advertising for VW.

I would never go into town to see it again was rubbish 2 years ago and only good thing I saw was a load of hippy types getting bundled into garda trucks not vans trucks.

There should be 4 massive Irish Wolfhounds leading the parade and then whatever float space they sell to anyone else.

"How is Bláthnaid getting on "

I was half expecting them to cut back to Blathnaid beating up somebody with an inflatable shamrock..

Apart from the Turbo's, Gearboxes, Cheap plastic interior's and so so electrics I suppose you can say German cars are OK...isn't that why everyone has or wants one!

Perfect for a Paddy's Day Parade in Dublin!!

This is the second year that a car manufacturer has got to buy their way into the front of the parade. I understand that it has to be paid for, but at least make the corporate sponsor the second or third thing in it. They'd get the same amount of coverage & we'd retain our dignity.

Seriously, would New York put up with some of these dodgy concepts?

These stupid phone in competitions on every live show they broadcast is a an absolute disgrace.

In fairness years ago they wanted to make the parade more colourful and artistic rather than just the army and people marching with fire trucks and bin lorries.

I would say it's a big improvement and better than the New York parade, wouldn't read too much into the art farty concepts and just enjoy the visuals.

Why do they pick Des Cahill to do the commentary, he's so dull. Sounds like he's no interest in the whole thing. It seems like he only cares about sports.

"The theme of this parade is living in the now. We tend to spend too much time looking back at the past. . . .now here's spraoi doing a depiction of the 1990s"

Prize of only €5k but entry is €1.50 a go, they will make big big money on such a poor prize. You then have adverts and in addition the coverage is sponsored by Dreamworks Home. What the hell is the tv licence funding, you would think they could go commercial free for an hour and a half on the countries national day of celebration.

Oh man not another brass band... There's more brass in this parade than there is in Del Trotter's shed..

I wear many hats, none of them fitting or in vogue..

Well the tv licence is not enough funding for them and I don't mind the ads as it means less Blaithnaid on tv but those phone competitions really annoy me and not something that should be on a national broadcaster.

Some of the themes of the performers & theatre groups are fierce complicated, aren't they? Even the bould Des sounds very confused & he probably has a sheet of paper in front of him, telling him who is who and what is what.

I'd say the people on the parade route don't have a bulls notion of what they are looking at.

I think some of these people must have been told that St Patrick brought mushrooms and not shamrocks.

Bring back the floats. Can't stand all this arty rubbish.

The smaller parades around Ireland look much more interesting and fun compared to the big Dublin one.

Why not green white and orange? Gold is not on the flag.
