got a email from stena line they are offering fares of 1 euro each way for foot passengers on their fast ferry from dublin - Holyhead for travel upto December 2015 .. Must be booked by tonight !!
I booked going out on 11th August staying over night in Holyhead and returning in evening of 12th total was 10 euro for 5 of us ..

Might be a nice family trip to entertain the kids for a day or so in the summer holidays 😬

Playing around with different dates and it seems you can go and come back whenever you like ... I have done some research and there is a haven holiday park 49 miles from holy head so could possible be a cheap summer holiday .

Here's the link for the haven park

A night in Holyhead? With no transport? with the kids?

    Good Luck!

FWIW Enterprise do a pick up service when you rent a car from Bangor. I've used it in the past and they were very accommodating. Could be of use for anyone who fancies leaving Holyhead and exploring a bit.

Beats sitting at home ... Going on a big boat and staying in a hotel is a huge adventure for little kids ... They love it !

If you book and decide not to go, do they hit you with an additional charge? Can't see anything on the website about it. Half tempted to book this for the Ireland France game in the World Cup

Thanks so much OP, I have tried to book though and it keeps saying "There is an unhandled error in the system". Anyone else get this?

Nevermind my last post, went through firefox and got it done. Thanks very much you saved me quite a bit of money.

€1 fares might see you share the ship with your local friendly skangers on a booze cruise. Bon voyage!

Unreal, ferry to Holyhead, now to book train to Cardiff for the first match of the World Cup. Overnight train to, so skimping on accommodation for at least one night.

So would they meet you at holyhead and allow you to drop off there? Might take a spin over to that Haven holiday Park.... If they're half decent!

SailRail will inevitably workout cheaper than paying €1 for the ferry and UK train fares separately.

I know but at least with this option is that, should train fares be too high on any route, it won't have cost a fortune.

Dunno yet, keep an eye on the trainline site. One I saw was 34 pounds but could end up cheaper if book say to crewe and then down. Haven't looked that ahead.

By ferry and train it might be a bit awkward to get there on time. Im flying to Birmingham and getting the train down myself as flying to Cardiff is way too expensive at World Cup time

Anyone know what other offers they had before today?

I know that the ship is called the "superfast" but its not actually the fast ferry. Its not the one that used to run from Dun Laoighre. Its a replacement for one of the slower ones that does the regular 4 hour crossing from Dublin.

Yes I noticed that and ment to edit the post .. However the time difference of the sailing makes no difference to me just means the kids will have a longer adventure 😬

I missed it too, was looking for a ferry on the 6/9 for a few of us to watch a match.

The way I feel sounds like Ship (it's 152 Euro now each way if I book).

I got the offer and booked a trip over the August bank holiday. But now I'm raging that I didnt book for the Ireland v Canada rugby world cup game on Sept 18th, I never even thought of it till other posters mentioned it later Paddys Day. Here's hoping tomorrows offer is €1 each way again, todays one is an upgrade to a cabin for €10. If tomorrows one is back to one way trips for €1 I'd say this forum will go mental, here's hoping

I'm hoping it's a reduced rate for driver and car.

£59 to travel from Holyhead to Dublin is decent but I'm guessing its going to be around €100 to go Dublin to Holyhead with a car? With sterling gone way up against the euro todays offer is better for the Welsh and English coming here rather than us going there.

    From €69..

.. which means there will be one sailing per day at that price.

    Also excludes Saturdays and Sundays

Booked the family for an overnight in summer for €8.

Anyone any ideas what to do for a night in Wales, where to get a train/bus from Holyhead to that's not too far and you could spend a day in?

    Thanks

Bangor? These guys have nothing but good things to say about the place:

(prices may have increased since 1979 though)

You can add the code "FRIEND" to combine the Single Car + Driver offer with the friend offer. Only spotted it after I had booked and wasted 65 euro.

    Utterly gutted.
