Just a small pet hate but really annoying, what pet hates do ye have?

    Inside my own gate. .

    1. Seeing something small to be fixed and not having the tools to hand to do it.
    2. letting cattle out in the spring and they running blind through electric fence.
    3. Being weak with the hunger and trying to finish a job before it gets dark!!
    4. Galloping to the hardware/garage before it closes only to realise at a minute past 6 that you got the wrong part!!
    5. A vet that doesn't speak a word all through the herd test!!!

    The list goes on!!!

A bitch of a cow that keeps running round and round the ring feeder, when you're trying to get her into the shed. Happened to me late last night. :D

Those who don't leave the knife back on the hook where bales are opened... I mean it has a loop and all to hang it with, your standing there beside the hook, you took it off the hook... how damn hard is it to put the damn thing back on the hook !

And wellington boots, hate the bloody things !

Farmers catching me trying to gawk into their fields :D

I've actually a real disgust for farmers who allow bales to go into shoite in the field like farmerjj said. All they're at is wasting money, they could at least do it out of public view.

    - People who shout at, roar and wallop cattle constantly. How a farmer treats stock is a good judge of the man himself imo.
    - Neighbours who allow their dogs to roam around. There's a black dog on his final warning this year.
    - 'Borrowers' who return things with no fuel/broken.
    - Lads who don't maintain fencing and have horny bulls with heifers on their minds.....

Making such a poor return on all the money that's tied up in the place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,194 ✭✭✭foxy farmer

Huntsmen and dogs marching across the farm. Luckily I don't have to contend with the horsey set here. Had an incident involving a pack of hounds that came in here that had no permission to hunt and the head of the local hunt. Shirt collars were pulled and words were exchanged. They went home quiet boys.
Drag hunts are another curse. Total strangers 30-40 maybe coming into the place.
Personally i wish they'd all feck off with their dogs. Around here I'd say hunting with dogs will die out in next 20 years. Young crowd have no interest in that type of thing. Heres hoping.

I better keep my head down cause I'd say I've done a vast majority of those pet hates in some small way or another. I try not to but I can't be perfect all the time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,012 ✭✭✭stop animal cruelty

farmers with very little patience herding/loading cattle....roaring and shouting at them, then poking and wallaping with sticks...acting like tough men with loads of control, dopes.

my biggest pet hate is the smell of silage and ****e on my hands, even after a shower still doesnt come out. And gloves are no good!

And l guess when your farming too it can be very isolating...like even in my free time (when lm at work either) ld be too wrecked to meet up with friends or do much...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,884 ✭✭✭mf240

Lads treating cattle or cows badly.

Having to reverse tractor and tanker / bale trailer 1/4 of a mile to a gap because the ould one in the micra/corsa/ polo is too fukin thick to reverse a few feet.

Lads calling in trying to sell stuff that i dont want and talking sh1te.

    Oh and sheep . I hate sheep:pac::pac:

    Mine are-
    •Badly stacked bales, looks terrible.
•Badly hung gates/dragging off the ground-you should be able to swing a gate with your baby finger.
•people not rising gaps in stone walls, a little and often is the key.
•electric fence earthing and smacking out loud
•neighbours not pulling their weight with boundaries.
•have no problem f**king a lad out of it at the mart if he is belting and stock of mine. Your body position can do a lot to move them.
•paying lads to do jobs and they not to turn out as planned/expected.
•people who borrow stuff constantly but have nothing worth borrowing or is in such bad shape it would probably break when you have it.
•negative people(I sound like one with this list!), especially relations who you can't avoid.
•people who don't work as a lifestyle choice. I don't care if my sons go on to be president of Ireland of sweep the streets as long as they work and earn their existence.
    •lists being made on boards!😄

Rough treatment of stock, they'd wear your patience but no sense roaring or beating them!!
Bad fencing!!!! An old pallet in a gap doesn't count as fencing!!!
Not having cash to expand and modernise!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,732 ✭✭✭Capercaillie

Paying somebody to spray/plough/rotovate. Then you find out they never bothered to spray when grass starts to grow all over the place.

1.Lads that know everything and it flowing out their h.....!
    2. Lads dishing out advice that they read from text book and no concept of reality or experience
    3. Dirty and untidy farms and Farmyards

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 504 ✭✭✭Feckthis

did you ever get the feeling someone has a opinion of you. You have done noting wrong and try to be nice to the person but you can't change the way a person treats/thinks of you. I have learned how to deal with these people now, If you don't show me respect. I most certainly won't show you any!! I was a bloody ejit for far too long chasing people who I felt I needed to change their mind about me. The Farming community is ridiculous for talking and bitching about others. And the worst is the people believe what they hear.

Ring feeders, I fcuking hate ring feeders.

The boss man mad to pull out the jack a few minuets after the bag is out. Slowly getting better at that.

    1. leaving machinery out in the weather and it pouring rain up on it. this goes for small items as well. hat seeing even brushes/ wheelbarrows let out as the handles are going to rot/ metal is going to rust etc

    2. hate some fellow borrowing machinery and bringing it back in all ****e. I have an ifor Williams cowbox and keep it spotless. I wash it after anytime animals are in it and one could eat there dinner. (I know most people don't do it but I just like to keep things clean). the someone borrows it and doesn't wash it out afterwards/leaves the muck inside and they can clearly see they were given it spotless.

    3. hate seeing waste in the silage pit as I spend a lot of time covering it well with sand bags in the side along with lorry tyres and the rest full with car tyres.

    4. hate when I spend a few hours fixing lights in a trailer and then come to use it again in a few months and the bloody things don't work. also hate looking at other trailers on the road with no working lights as I spend so much time making sure there right

    4. hate when I take shortcuts and end up breaking something. went to move two loads of water one day with the slurry tank and was too lazy to move arms as they were set for the fert spinner. in any case the arms caught the pto shaft of the tank and bent it. ended up buying a new pto shaft.

Farmers not pulling in on the road to let cars by. I Spend a good bit of time on the road with work. Last week I sat behind a tractor with a plough attached ( with no lights on the plough) for 15 mins. It was 6pm and dark. My blood was boiling.

    I hate
    • people who begrudge those who have made big achievements, just because you pissed away your life and have a sh1te farm doesn't give you the right to moan about me and how well I have done/doing
    • driving all the way to the yard and forgetting the gloves to clean the ****e out of drinking troughs, as im too stubborn to drive back to the home yard to get the gloves ! in I go with bare hands ! ;)
    • not having the keys to a machine that I f3ckin own because one of the lads has drove to the other end of the country with the keys in his jeep!

EU & Dept of Ag rules and bureaucracy.
    Bord Bia inspectors and inspections
Merchant employees who haven't a clue about the goods they're selling.
CoOps that are closed on Thursdays.

Enjoying a few days or weeks of good weather, watching lads going mad saving and baling hay successfully.....then passing a lovely field of small square bales or round bales of hay a few weeks later nice and wet after a weeks rain and the after grass growing up through them cos the owner was too lazy to gather them up!
Why bother making them in the first place FFS.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,572 ✭✭✭✭Base price

I don't really have any pet hates - live and let live is my motto.
However the one thing that drives me mad is when I drive into a dairy yard and see some asshole farmer mistreating his jex bull calves by not bothering to give them a decent sup of milk and a straw bed to lie in. Some of these asshole farmers are considered to be the bee knees in dairying & media circles :(
