Boxing bag in my gym

hey was just looking for an opinion on something , maybe you have experienced this as one of the head scratchers in the gym!

our gym has one of those jungle gym things, multiple stations, chin ups, cable rows, dips and an adjustable step for power jumps ( a lot of GAA lads use this) to boot!!

anyway there's also a moderate yet good quality punch bag on it too, which I love to use, had boxed in the past and no my way around one, love using them for a change. anyway they'd been going through bags like no ones business because big wall punchers and (controversially) foreign lads were kicking six shades of ****e out of the nag. and I mean taking a run up to it etc, ridiculous stuff to be honest. so Mr dunne (hint) decides to put a big sign next to the bag "NO KICKING THE PUNCH BAG".

Last night this tool is kicking the bag like it owes him money and misses narrowly almost hitting a guy passing by. the guy removes his ear phones and points to the sign telling the kicker (who was foreign and may have had trouble reading the sign, let's assume) explaining that it's a punch bag for exactly this reason. The guy get the hump, tells him to feck off and continues even harder on the bag. once finished he high fives his buddy who proceeds laughing to do the same.

I dunno, is it just me or should a floor manager take a walk over and say "these are the rules of the gym ok, you may not have known until now or realised it, but as long as you train here you'll abide by them or collect your gear at reception" I saw one instructor looking on and saying nothing. It's not like this lad was handy either, he was just a thick with an I do as I please attitude. is this common place in gyms?

Did you ask one of the instructors what they thought, or point it out to them?

A gym manager should be saying it because it's costing them money to replace the bags because people kick them.

Tbh if they bought a good qualifty bag kicking shouldn't wear it out ask faster than punching.
My gym has had its current bag for a couple of years and not a scratch on them. I'd also assume that they get hit more often and harder the bag in Ben Dunne fitness.

True but that's unlikely to happen in a Ben Dunne gym.

Most runners would tear at the material more than the likes of the training shoes for taekwondo, kickboxing etc as well

Ah wait, if they are kicking with their runners that's prob the issue. Shoes off please.
TBF its costing them money by buying cheap ones, false economy. A good one would be less than twice price of a cheap one, and a lot more than twice as long

They'd still get long enough if clowns weren't kicking with runners on. Always took even the soft training shoes off kicking bags

sorry had to pop out yesterday.

yes it was noted by at least two people and then myself to the instructors, and yes ben dunnes gym. it's not up to members to risk confrontation by going running telling the instructors. I feel they should maybe even make an example of one of them by giving him a dressing down.

Yes they always have runners on. the bags aren't meant for bloody jumping and Axe kicks. I wouldn't mind a measured turning kick maybe with punching drills etc but we're missing the point, it's not a boxing or martial arts gym. Throwing wild kicks as people are passing etc is a nightmare waiting to happen.

I've seen this happen before, axe kicks also tear the holding straps on the bag head, it then hangs unevenly making it useless. This is not a crank thread, just wondering if this is passed as normal behaviour..

I'm waiting for one of the clowns to build up a sweat, throw an over reaching ego kick whilst the anchor leg pivots on same floor sweat!! a broken elbow or shattered ego will no doubt follow. It's gas, they'd be the first to lash in a claim too I bet!

So, you think they should ditch the bag?

no not at all, why should the few spoil it for the many. I've seen tons of guys use it perfectly doing 2 minute rounds as cardio. I do rounds on it and then 6 rounds on the rope and other stuff on my no lifting days, it's brilliant. My concern is they will ditch it because what?? the instructors wont enforce the rules. If I walked into the sauna in me nip I'm sure i'd hear about it quick enuf!!

you know what annoys me too?? ive done martial arts and boxing, had plenty of spars and these saps haven't a clue. they're showboating for girls waiting to go into yoga, or throwing badly times inaccurate windmill kicks because maybe people will gasp and say woooow, wouldn't mess with him!!!

Ive great respect and give nothing but high praise for those who know what they're doing, respect there surroundings and those around them and just get on with it. but this is stupid carry on.

I see in the thread it says grinds my gears!! I get that ref as a family guy episode, ha ha ha, yes funny :D

it does really grind my gears I guess. Just because we're considerate maybe we shouldn't expect everyone else to be. some reserve their right to be assh0les and wallow in it.

yeah all round I really like this gym though, great stuff and it never lays damaged. I suppose rough with the smooth and all, takes all sorts I suppose.

yeah he finally got dumbells up to 40kg now, was sick of doing 15 reps one arm rows with 30kg. Rusty likes these 40's now!
