    Hi

I'm looking for a rack to look for doing squats and bench presses on a ball.

Anyone know where I can pick one cheap? Looked at adverts and donedeal, anywhere else to check?

    Thanks

    Bench on a ball.

Why would you want to bench press on a ball?

If you are going to be benching on a ball, then only use a weight that you don't need a rack to support.

    Don't squat on a ball

Don't have room for a bench.

Why can't you bench heavier on a ball?

Have no intention of squatting on a ball, looks dangerous and impossible!

It's unstable so you have to drop the weight.

What is the max weight you consider safe to use a ball?

Tha depends on he ball and what you would press using a proper bench

Not sure what kind of ball it is.

Currently I bench on it with 20kg dumbbells however want to increase weight as up to 15 reps. I have a barbell with a lot more weight for deadlifting.

Why not just buy the bench? It will be more stable then using the ball, as the above poster has said adding heavier weights will be risky/silly as you'd need some balance to keep steady.

There's lots of benches on Adverts starting from €30...the squat racks seem to be more expensive though.

The ball will have a max weight it can take.

It's when you try and go from a bench to a ball that problems arise with trying to bench on it with a weight the same as you've had on a stable bench.

Personally, I'd get a bench and find a place to store it

I was hoping not to have to use a bench as I don't really have the room for it. However looks like i'll have to try and get one that can fold down so can put away when not using it.

Anyone any other suggestion for a squat/bench rake other than adverts/donedeal?

What kind of budget do you have for a rack?

    Cheap as possible :)

Was hoping not to have to spend over 100.

The cheapest you'll get is either this on DoneDeal or an even worse one for €107 from Argos that has a max capacity of 100kg.

Yea saw that one on dd however am in Dub so Clare a bit of a trek.

Pity Argos one is only up to 100kg. I assume you can bench on the one as well?

A bench isn't going to take up much more room than the ball. You could try to get one that fits inside the rack sideways.

If you are spending only €100 then don't expect it to be too good, or rated very heavy.

Have thought about this some more and decided I need to spend a bit more to get what I'm looking for.

What do people think of these two? They have good reviews on adverts.

From the reviews I'vve read on that squat stand, the main complaint is that the safety pins are fixed and might be a problem. But without knowing the height of the pins, it's hard to know. Gets good reviews for doing exactly what it says on the tin.

I wonder if you could get an "incline-able" bench for a similar price. This would mean you could complete a much larger range of exercises.

I thought they were adjustable for squats and benching, will look again. Or do you mean they get in the way for certain exercises?

The safety pins coming out from the uprights, at right angles, are fixed. The vertical height of the main uprights can be adjusted for the bar.

Here's the link to amazon and the reviews. Mostly good, to be fair.

It's only a Squat stand, so its not actually designed for benching.
The stands adjust up and down for different height users. At a low setting it should be a rack-able height for bench press, but the safety arms are a fixed height and they are way too high to be used as bench press safeties.
The safeties are about 900mm high, the bench you linked to is 430mm high.

If you want to bench you might be able to do it from the safeties themselves, which isn't ideal imo.

Otherwise you'd need something like this. AT their lowers setting, the safeties might be usualy be bench pressing.

I think i need to give this some more thought, get some measurement etc look at other options etc.
