I'll be there. I ran it two years ago and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Hopefully congestion at the start, due to roadworks on Dawson Street, won't be too much of an issue!

I'm in. Anyone get their number in the post yet?

Anyone received their race numbers in the post yet?

Bit concerned as we're already on the 10th...

I don't see a route map online this year either. It looks like the start has moved to Dawson Street, but it would be nice to see the route like last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,704 ✭✭✭✭RayCun

back to the old route, maybe?

Let's hope they get the distance right this year. Would be nice to see some form of statement that the course had been measured by an official AAI course measurer. I'm signed up anyway. Like the race, despite the previous problems.

Yeah from the course map they have posted it looks like they are back to the new route alright...

Do you have a link? Can't find it anywhere!

Just from the flyer, it says the start/finish is on Dawson street in front of the masion house
    http://registration.precisiontiming.co.uk/events/preview?id=32&EventNAme=St_Patricks_Day_Festival_5k_2015

The course route would be the same as the garmin link ray posted above if so...

Number was waiting at home, no map but it says 'the traditional route'

Signed up for this too and got my number in the post today. Looking forward to this - last did it in 2009. Fairly unusual bib/ chip timer yoke with some critical instructions that need to be followed!

Am I right in saying you pick up the goody bag and t-shirt before the race - from 10am, rather than afterwards?

That was the case last year. Not sure about this year.

Yep I'm doing this. I'm organising a charity run at work and we are piggy backing on this one. 100+ people from my job doing it. My first race of the year too after a long lay off with injury. Looking forward to it.

haven't got my number yet but I was onto Race Director who said he understood precision were posting them out at the weekend. My Mam is doing it too and I know she got her number in post today. I think you only get it posted to you if you registered before Feb 27th. Otherwise presume you collect on the morning of race?

I have a copy of the planned route at work but looking at your link there , that looks like it alright from memory.

Yep, me too. I registered in January, specifically because I didn't want the bother of having to driving up to Dublin earlier than I had to.

Always a great race, and super course.

Slight wind in some parts of the course, but mostly balanced off.

Great to finish on Dawson Street, with so much great support.

Started way to far back (about 1 min to get to the start line) , even with my low expectations for the day, but enjoyed picking off the groups all the way around. :D:D:D

    Results are up http://www.precisiontiming.net/result.aspx?v=2473

Super race...very fast course, great atmosphere...perfect conditions. My previous PB was last year at this race but I couldn't really count that as the course was short....so set myself a PB this year (although my Garmin said the course was 150m but lets not even go there! :) ) I'm guessing I didn't run the optimum line.

22:06, gun time around 23 minutes, tells its own story! I was so far back at the start, that I spent the first mile bobbing and weaving in and out of runners much slower than even me !! Didn't bother looking at my watch as a result. I put on a decent sprint at the end, passing about five runners in the last 60 metres, but afterwards I felt like I had hardly raced at all. Looking forward to reading the reports; at a quick glance it seems like at least several Boardsies had very good days :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,053 ✭✭✭KJ

That was a very fast race. I slowed down a bit around the 3km mark and thought I had recorded a rubbish time but I managed a 21.41 which is only 30 seconds off my PB.
Well organised race and great support on the sides.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,776 ✭✭✭This Fat Girl Runs

Well, I enjoyed my day at the races! No PB though but that was entirely my fault; I had to stop and tie my shoelaces just after the start. Note to self: Check shoelaces before the race!

I finished in 39:49. I'm not terribly happy with that but you live and learn and I'll know for next time! After the race I walked home, then walked into town for lunch then back home again so I know I had it in me to do better at the race.

I'll have a full report on my blog and training log later!

Did anyone fine the net time wrong me and a few of my friends are times where off by our garmin approx 4 seconds. . I know it's not a lot but it would have been a PB if the garmin was correct.. just funny 3 others where 4 seconds out also..

Yes, my net and gross time were the same for some reason. 13 secs out. So I'll go by my watch time instead.:)

Really enjoyed this race. My first official 5k race. I may be back for more!

My times not up yet. In fact my bib number is showing someone else! Guess these things happen once in a while?

Did any find it a bit over 5k? I certainly didn't take any long routes around corners but my Garmin shows 5.15k. Don't get me wrong my time was great so I'm not complaining! Just wondered if anyone else did too, especially after last year showing short. Could be GPS I guess.

Yes,mine was a tad long according to the watch too and I thought I kept the racing line mostly but I guess buildings might interfere a bit so I wouldn't be paying too much attention to it.

My net and gross time were also the same for some reason even though I started 25m or so back. 14 secs out. Pity as I broke 22mins for the first time in ages.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,423 ✭✭✭fletch

    5.15kms for me too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 851 ✭✭✭thewolf_ie

5.17k and 2 seconds out from garmin.

I don't think you can read too much into GPS readings for the distance covered. It's pretty inaccurate at the best of times but in town with the tall buildings etc it is really inaccurate.

The map of my run on strava (if you zoom in) has me running though buildings and through the Green rather than along the road where I actually ran so I would say the overall GPS data is less than reliable.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,915 ✭✭✭✭menoscemo

Garmins perform very poorly in such built up areas. I'd imagine if you checked out your traces on the map, they will show you performing some crazy manoeuvrings :p

AMK is reporting 3.10 miles on the logs so not everyone measured it long. I'd imagine the course was spoton if they used the old traditional course.

My Garmin showed 5.15 too and my time didn't match my chip time at all!

Anyone find precision timing out by a few seconds a few of us did 4 seconds approx

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 16,192 Mod ✭✭✭✭adrian522

Mine was only 1 second difference from my garmin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 Brigantes

Guess you're right about the GPS. Just interesting after last year showing short.

Interestingly, just chatting with the wife about the time. She was spectating at the start/finish and telling me there was an issue with the clock. Clock went off at about 6 or 7 minutes. Van came down, with an electrical crew up a ladder securing the clock itself. When it came back on the time didn't match the commentators time- apparently they were saying the runners were about 8 minutes gone but the clock was showing 9 minutes. Consternation all round. I presume they've got it fixed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 jimjamkk06

    my garmin said 3.22 mile.

my times for today 6.25 first mile 6.37 second mile 6.20 third mile and last 2.22 was 1.14
never got this before, with my garmin even last year was 3.06 mile but that was fine because the course was short.

I measured 5k exactly on the garmin and ran the line without much congestion throughout. In any event, and to reiterate something that comes up countless times on discussions etc... given the buildings and routes as others have mentioned, garmins have limited effectiveness.

I would love to hang my hat on a long course or timing errors, having clocked 17:00 on the gun and chip time. But I won't. Tough day for me - heart, mind and body weren't in it if i'm to be honest, and only the sprint finish brought me that close to breaking the 17. Still a PB, but a little disappointed. I'll be back.

Spot on event otherwise, decent shirt aswell, esp considering the entry price. Ran this in 2009, nice to be back and will do it again!

Very pleased with today - I'd been aiming to crack the 22.30 mark and hoping to come in with a few seconds to spare, but finished in 21.57. Good course and well organised.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,415 ✭✭✭Singer

Decent t-shirt (nice to get a long-sleeve for variety!) and a PB of 23:31 :) - it was my first go at a 5k, so also a personal worst :(

Very crowded at the start - my first km was over a minute longer than any other km - however, to be completely expected in this type of race. I enjoyed the family/tourist/dress-up friendly atmosphere, the Mansion House was a wonderful location for the pre/post race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 676 ✭✭✭davemcmahon

Very well run race, 2nd time doing it and the T-shirt is a big improvement on the one I got 2 years ago. Nice course and good to get the chance to run on roads I wouldn't normally get to run on.

Thanks to MSB for a great race. This is one of my favourites and I try to do it every year. I love the course, I love starting and finishing at the Mansion House, I love running on the city streets and along by the canal, and I love the holiday atmosphere in town because it's St Patrick's Weekend.

Travelled in with two friends (and clubmates) and got there in time to get t-shirt, drop bags, warm up (and hare off to various city centre toilets as is my wont :)) My husband (Eoinín from here) turned up in time to wish us luck (he'd been off ultra training), and we lined up and set off.

As always, I may have started a bit far back, but I was delighted with how it went - got a bit faster every mile, and ended up 8 seconds faster than the same race in 2013, so a new PB (20.15).

I love my t-shirt (thanks MSB for having them in XS), was delighted to see all the cream of women's running up on stage getting their prizes (Fionnuala Britton, Ann-Marie McGlynn, Orla Drumm, Catherina McKiernan, and my own club mate Maria O'Sullivan (Siobhan O'Doherty wasn't there for the prize giving)). Delighted, too, to see MarthaStew get her award and well done to Crusaders on their team prizes.

Thanks to all the marshalls and volunteers and cheerers, especially Eoinín who was at 1k and 4k filming us, SuperJoe with his great shouting, and Ilona from Crusaders who gave me a great shout out :). Great shout out from RayCun (& family? I was too 'focused' (aka just hanging on :)) to move more than my eyes to see who was cheering).

We (Maria, Kyomi (from this forum), my friend Mary & I) were 3rd women's team, which we were delighted with.

It was all great fun, followed by pizza, which was followed by cake and coffee with my mum for Mothers' Day.

Well done to all who ran!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,549 ✭✭✭✭Krusty_Clown

Exactly what HelenAnne said. Super race (as always). Great atmosphere and a very decent field. Hats off to anyone who ran faster than they did last year, as last year's route was particularly fast. Looking forward to running this race again next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,601 ✭✭✭Wubble Wubble

Yes indeed, well done to all, it was a bit windy in parts but a good few PBs nonetheless! I had to head away fairly sharpish afterwards, so didn't get to sample the pizza or whatever else was going in the Round Room. Maybe next year

Tea was what was going in the Round Room -- all the biscuits seemed to have been eaten (by kids I suspect :)). I bought my own pizza!
