Anyone see the Zimbabwe Herald's article about the match v Ireland? The Guardian have linked to it.
Not sure if it's incredibly funny or incredibly stupid/actionable/mean

That is the most infuriating thing I have ever read.

Woke up at 6 this morning, bit bleary eyed but thought to check the score in the match. Read India 259 and Ireland 100/0 - thought brilliant, we're in with a real chance here! :) Then the eyes came into focus :( Ah well, roll on the weekend.

I wouldn't get too upset about it.
I feel sorry for the Zimbabweans who are constantly fed this populist drivel, not just for sporting events, but for every newsworthy article, by the Mugabe regime.

There will be an entire generation that have little more than a North Korean's perspective on reality.

Seriously that is Zim state controlled media, you do realise that it is run by a mental dictator, anything goes. No one with a brain cell takes it remotely seriously, as you can see by the comments.

In other news, I went to bed with Ireland having passed 50 without loss and hopes high. I woke to a disappointing return on what was a pretty flat wicket. Something north of 300 would have been a par score, but I think India would have comfortably chased pretty much anything under 350.

Regardless of whether we get a result against Pakistan or the UAE do us a favour, this has been a fantastic world cup performance. To take 2 test scalps again at a world cup is a superb result and hopefully it generates pressure on the ICC & gives them something to think about in terms of expansion of both the Test Set up and the current 2019 CWC plans.

It's still in our hands. Exhibition cricket from India though, it was a contest for about 10 overs but it needed the mother of all collapses for Ireland to defend any total on that pitch against our attack. Good news is Pakistan are very capable of that.

pity its not head to head rather than run rate. Ireland would be through

Disappointing collapse after such a good start, especially losing a wicket to Ashwin's final ball. But realistically anything we posted would have been chased down in these batting conditions with our bowling line-up. There's not much else we can say about these sort of games against top teams on form except to chalk it down and move onto the next one where we might get some assistance from either the conditions or the opposition.

Collapse might be a bit strong. The way India have been playing so far this tournament they've looked pretty controlled and impressive. Bowled everybody out for under 260 and have been spreading the wickets around all their bowlers while keeping the run rate down.
The only weak point in their batting so far was a slightly nervy chase of the WIndies' 182 which was never going to be close to enough even with 6 wickets down. Against everybody else they're able to keep the run rate going in the first 30 or 40 overs and still retain wickets in hand to accelerate. So far at 40 overs they've been 227/2 against S. Africa, 217/2 against Pakistan and didn't even need the 40 overs when chasing.

The projected score at the current rate when Stirling went was 300, at 8/over it was 370. Collapse might be harsh but it fits when you're all out for 259 with an over to spare from that platform. Joyce was the key wicket, not only did losing two quick wickets slow things down, he would have coped well with their spinners.

IMHO, Ireland did reasonably well against India.

Lets not forget that India is probably one of the best teams in the world, professional players, premier league country etc. Ireland Vs India is not too far off in comparison to say Drogheda United playing Real Madrid. Yet, it was not a complete wipe-out. The total was on the low side, but a different day / different pitch, the story could have been different.

Fingers crossed for a brilliant next match!

We went from 206-3 in the 38th over to 238-9 in the 45th, that's a collapse by any standard. Some of the dismissals were disappointing too, especially the runout. India did a great job in putting on the pressure, especially in the field, but I'm sure a lot of the batsmen will be disappointed by what happened, 300 was definitely possible for most of the innings

259 was a good score against India

Look out how everyone else in our group got on against them.

    Pakistan 224 from 47 overs
South Africa 177 from 40 overs
UAE 102 runs from 31 overs
West Indies 182 from 42 overs
    Ireland 259 from 49 overs

Really you could argue, that we have given India their best game so far and that's definitely something to be proud of

Disgraceful performance in the end. We should be expecting a lot more from this team.

The success of our world cup relies on beating Pakistan now.

Jesus, if he's a rugby fan you'd think he could stick with that sport if he wants to give out about Irish teams being useless in the World Cup, he has almost 30 years of failure to choose from.

    Wrong.

We have high expectations already - beating one of the world leaders isn't one of them though.

Was always going to be. We knew what we had to do, and so far we've done it - beating 2 full members is progress. There's no reason why we can't do the same on Sunday morning and qualify.

And to get a feel of how strong India really is, see what's happening in Ranji Trophy today (an internal First class cricket tournament that's been going on 70-80 years). Karun Nair of Karnataka scored a TRIPLE century, second ever in Ranji Trophy, and first since 1947, and as incredible as it sounds, what's even more incredibe is that this might - only just might - get him noticed by the national team selectors.

It's second triple century in Ranji trophy finals, but overall there were many 300s and Karun's innings is 10th highest score in Ranji history.

India are in the SC for a long time now for test cricket so he may go big their a few times, although that young lad who made a century in the last test whose name I forget is ahead of him.

A lot of flat tracks in ODI cricket sadly, but they still need to be cashed in and he has. Also to be fair his century against South Africa was gun.

Not many concerns for India at the moment, maybe they would like Raina to bowl, but that is is it really.

    Lokesh Rahul?

Very early to make any judgement on him. Looked clueless in 1 innings and looked good in other.

Lokesh Rahul scored a brilliant 188 when Karnataka were 84/5 in Ranji finals.
