Animals in the house... disgusting??

I'm absolutely adore animals and have a heap of pets. The dogs sleep on my bed, the cat has a litter box in the house and I'm currently litter box training a rabbit, which is having the odd accident of course.
Now obviously I clean up any messes straight away but I'm actually surprised at the amount of people who think animal hair in the house, dogs sleeping on beds, potty training pets in the house, litter trays etc. are disgusting!
I have come across people who think having animals in the house is unhygienic and gross full stop.

I think it's perfectly fine as long as you keep on top of the cleaning up! What's the general view on this?

If you're happy op I wouldn't worry what anyone else thinks.

Personally, I have a dog and she sleeps where she wants.

Our 2 dogs are on the couch - one just farted. Fairly disgusting. The fart, not the whole "being on the couch".

Keeping a dog outside all day and night barking his head off due to the lack of attention and the total ignorance for your neighbours = Disgusting

Love having my dog in the house.

It was extremely easy to toilet train her, she doesn't go upstairs because she knows she's not allowed. She let's us know when she wants to go out to the garden to do her business, and she knows not to jump on the couch after, she goes to her bed.

I'd hate to leave her outside!

I remember reading a thread here about a guy who ****ted himself and in every hotel room at a wedding he was at.

If people are like that after a feed of drink, I'd rather have an animal that sh@t in a box.

Personally I think it's manky - I love cats and dogs but having them take over a house doesn't do it for me I have to say

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,526 ✭✭✭Slicemeister

Did a job yesterday place was full of manky cats and crusty dogs. Skin was creeping afterwards straight home for a shower.

If you keep animals in your house service men should be able to automatically decline to come in the front door.

I love dogs btw. Cats not so much.

It's disgusting. Was in a friends the other day. Dog was licking its hole and balls, then it came over and licked me. They should be out in the shed not not using the sitting room carpet to drag their hole across.

Can't see the problem with dogs...at least you know the only thing they will betray you for is someone new to rub them down or throw their toys around
    Cats are unsociable cuts
    Rabbits are food

You deserve a ban on keeping animals of any kind

Oh my 2 cats are bosses in my house. They go out everyday for an hour or two when we get home from work. Other than that they are indoor cats. And they go everywhere, it's their home too. They are clean so don't have an issue.

same in our house, we have 3 cats, I keep on top of the cleaning, they sleep in the bed sometimes, on the couch every evening, and have total run of the house, its their house too, they go for a wander every day but are inside lots where they are safe

It's a young cat and a massive rabbit, i'd say the trunks of their bodies are roughly the same size. In a fight my money would be on the rabbit :pac:

Leaving a dog to sleep outside when it's lashing it down or freezing tends to disgust me tbh. Ours have the run of the house, but they sleep downstairs and never go on the beds. I wouldn't leave them outside, it'd be like feckin a family member out into the cold.

The cat will grow. Wild rabbits don't have a hope against a cat. What chance does a fluffy domesticated rabbit have?
Don't get me wrong, I hope they grow old together and are best of friends

Ah I know, they will get used to each other as much as possible but will never be in any situation where the the rabbit could get hurt, I'm very careful :)

The only rabbits on my property were caught in traps - being kept in relatively comfortable cages - and are forbidden from getting names because they are destined for a pot.

People who probably have no idea just how much wild life - from the very small unicellular - up to the common insects and arachnids - live in the average house. I have no figures on this - but I somewhat suspect the biomass of the average single human in a house is outweighed by the non human biomass living with them. They just dont know it.

In the grand scheme of things - domestic animals are the least of their worries.

I'm sure you and most folk don't scratch their balls or arse now-and-again and also not wash your hands after leaving the bathroom :) Make any sandwiches lately ?.

Actually having a dog around the house is supposed to be good for your immune system. Hairs are a problem at times but get that hoover out daily and suck them up.

I wouldn't have a problem with pets in the house. I'm thinking if you get a pet make it a family member or don't bother. Dogs especially are very social animals (pack animals). To have them sit outside rain or hail looking into the window where ye all sit in the warm cosy room day or night, I couldn't do it.
I mean a lot of people wear shoes in the house, downstairs anyway. I see very little between that and having a pet run around the house hygiene wise

But there are limits. I'd never have them anywhere near the bedroom maybe with the exception of a full-time indoor cat. No jumping up on anything like kitchen counters etc. I really like dogs but I really hate licky dogs.

If people don't want an animal in the house for hygiene reasons then they should probably avoid pubs, restaurants or anywhere there's people really. The amount of them who don't wash their hands after using the bathroom is crazy! A dog licking his balls is the least of your worries

I don't think I could let a dog sleep outside.

When I was a kid I used to sneak our dog into my bedroom, and sneak her out in the morning. It was too cold for her outside. She'd be scraping the kitchen door begging to come in.

The only bitch I've ever snuck in and out of my parents' house.

Rabbits can be quite vicious when it comes to it.

Its your house do what you want . I regularly get the whole "yuck they should be outside" spiel. I ignore it. I love my animals and would much rather them be inside warm and safe . I tend to dislike very much people who don't treat animals as they would like to be treated themselves. BTW I only have 1 dog and 1 cat.

I have a few tortoises indoors most of the year - due to our ****e climate. They are in their own enclosures but sometimes we let them ramble around the living room. They usually take a dump or whizz on the rug, but I just clean it up, no big deal. Humans are probaly worse than animals anyway...even with our so called civility, we are filthy, filthy creatures.

Never let ducks roam the house free.

Yes we are 'filthy' creatures but we gotta be. The world is a very organic, 'filthy' place and if we isolated ourselves too much from it we'd lose our ability to survive in it.

To be honest I do my best to be as clean and hygienic as possible. If there was someone in my house scratching their balls, rooting at their hole, and then dragging their hole across the carpet, I'd have them out on their ear and they wouldn't be welcome back.

My two have the run of the house, downstairs! They're not allowed up the stairs, hence not sleeping in our bed, nor are they allowed on furniture.

    I mean, in fairness - where would I sit/sleep?

They are crate trained and sleep in their crates at night. I just don't understand why you'd get a dog, knowing its gonna be around 12-15 years - and confine it to a yard.

My friend has a white cat and black tiles on the floor, you can clearly see the car hair everywhere and I mean EVERYWHERE, I'd consider my friend a tidy clean person but my god I hate going into her house and coming away covered in cat hair! It's pretty nasty. Worst part is watching her toddler rolling around in it and sticking her cat hair covered hands into her mouth! yuuuuck!

I'm a firm believer that animals belong outside or in their own little shelter or whatever, I'm not talking out in the cold but comfortable in an appropriate setting with heat and soft place to sleep etc, especially if you have kids.

I let the dog have full access to the house, it's not barred from anywhere and he's a rescue dog with many months of personal training and he sure learned well. He's a collie though so they are very easy to train regarding their intelligence. Stick the feller into the bath for a shower when needed and hygiene is excellent.

If you find a hair in your sandwich... make sure its not yours before you give out to the modra.

Human beings are basically animals as well. As soon as you touch a door-handle you are contaminated and passing it on and also rubbing your mouth and possibly making dinner to spread it forward to all others. We are made of it all but some folk are very parro about cleanlinesses, too much I find.

People are such clean freaks nowadays it amazes me how they survive at all. My cat and dog can sit where they like in the house obviously excluding countertops ,food prep areas etc. I have no problem with them curling up beside me on the couch. Way I see it furniture can be replaced , the love, gratitude and loyalty can't .

I bet that dog had a serious case of the worms if it was dragging its hole across the carpet. And then it licked you? Itchy hole lately?

I think that's a sign of impacted anal sacs, not worms. Far more disgusting than worms. My vet asked me to leave the room while he was clearing my dog's anal sacs and stupidly I didnt. I was still wretching when I reached my car. Vile smell.

    Hope nobody's eating...
