Hip Replacement and Weak Flexor Muscles

    Hi,

Had a hip replacement 3 and a half years ago which has been generally very successful and has enabled me to remain very active.

However there was always been a weakness in the group of muscles used to do slow controlled leg raises when lying on ones back on the floor.

I have been to a physio and do leg slow raises with an ankle weight and can get it to the same number of reps as the good leg. The problems are

    1) If I don't do the exercises on a regular basis (few times a week) it weakens well below the level of the good leg.

    2) While doing the leg raises a burning sensation comes on after the first few reps and lasts until a few reps before failure. Yes it seems to largely disappear when the muscles are fatigued. On the good side (i.e. one that has not been replaced) there is no burning sensation, just the fatigue on the last few reps before failure.

    3) Any non regular activity such as for example kicking a football with the little fellow causes it to weaken.

    4) Any trauma to that part of the body (such as sliding off a bike which happened recently) will result in accelerated weakening of the involved muscles.

Has anybody else experienced something similar ?
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what may be going on ?

    Thanks Paul.

Have you asked the physio these questions, out of interest?

I have and working him with got the left side as strong as the right. Regarding the burning and tendency towards going weak he didn't know.

Any thoughts or idea people have are welcome here. I realise they are just that (thoughts and ideas) but may give me some idea as to where to look next.

1st port of call is to seek out the relevant medical professional OP.

Hard to advise from Internet strangers
