It's the barrel itself that is rotten.

India’s Daughter: ‘I made a film on rape in India. Men’s brutal attitudes truly shocked me’

Mukesh Singh says: “You can’t clap with one hand – it takes two hands. A decent girl won’t roam around at night. A girl is more responsible for rape than a boy … about 20% of girls are good.” Jyoti fought back. Singh says: “She should just be silent and allow the rape. Then they would have dropped her off after ‘doing her’ and only hit the boy.
I am angry. I am angry that women in that country are not allowed to live with purpose.

Sometimes it is NOT the apples ...it's the barrel that is rotten.

The strength and courage they display in spite of the total seemingly hopeless situation they are in.

We should praise women for standing up and saying. I AM NOT CATTLE I AM NOT DIRT UNDER THIS CULTURES FEET.

I think simply because we are white women from a more fortunate position does not or should not prevent us from using our power to weigh in on the debate. We should give it socks.

India cannot use the excuse of fake cultural superiority in the west against us. Sexists accusing white women of bigotry or inequality for weighing in on the debate takes the biscuit.

The particular story and quotes which you make reference to are a disgrace, there is no arguing with that. One would wonder how systematic these acts and opinions are among the population as a whole. India has an absolutely staggering population which makes it statistically a lot more common to find such stories.

I've been to India on several occasions and it's an eye-opener on many levels. On a more positive note, one thing which did stick out to me was the respect with which women commanded in certain roles, which is not always the case in our Western culture. For example if you walk into an engineering office in India you will notice that 50% plus of the team will be female, which really surprised me. Indian culture deems engineering a respectable profession for a woman, and one in which she can draw an equal respect from her male peers.
