Starts at 03:30 GMT a d/n game in Canberra.

Being realistic the best we can hope for is a respectable showing. The SA batting line up is scarey good and our bowling is weak.

In any event the game against Zimbabwe is far more important

Agreed, a step to far this game. Hopefully we keep the margin of loss down somewhat though.

Yes. Hoping to tune into some BBC Five Radio action in the morning.

Sorenson to take a 5-fer and destroy his native batting unit.

Kevin to concede less than 3 an over with his death bowling.

    Dockrell to bamboozle AB DeVilliers

    Easy chase.

    *wakes up*

Looks like the rain will stay away.
At least the temperature and humidity will be reasonable.
Canberra, roundabout city. Anyone else ever been there?

Mark Butcher made a good point about how Canberra should bring the teams closer together. I still think it could be ugly but Perth or The Gabba would be a lot worse places for this game.

I know we probably can't do much against their batting but the key to a decent showing (not being thumped) might be whether our batsmen can survive Steyn, Morkel and co.

An amazing few weeks for Irish Sport, let's get another amazing win tomorrow morning.

The rugby, Harro in the golf. Anything is possible!

But not really, we should just try to not get hammered

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 395 ✭✭Cricket fan

Pitch looks like an absolute belter.

IMO, no matter how well we bowl SA will have a massive score, so I think itd be best if we bat first if possible and look to post 250 plus. If we snag a few early wickets who knows?? One things for sure SA arent comfortable chasers

I didn't realise Adrian Birrell was an SA coach now, that's really not going to help :D I hope SA do well in the rest of their games now though

This could be incredibly important. There's a fair chance that NRR is going to decide whether Ireland progress or not if they can beat Zimbabwe but lose to Pakistan (and India).

South Africa to bat first, they'll be all out with 50 runs on the board. Stirling will play an absolute blinder, bowling 10 overs and take 6 wickets for 20 runs. I dont care who gets the other 4 ;)

To reward him for his efforts, he'll be given a rest and Kevin O'Brien who does not get the opportunity to bowl, opens the batting with Porterfield. He hits Dale Steyn for 24 runs in his first over. They rotate the strike nicely for the next 3 overs with Kevin O'Brien hitting a 6 with the final ball of the 4th over to wrap things up, Ireland finishing on 53-0 and winning the match with 276 balls to spare

It's a bit of a toss up? If SA bat first, at least they might start off circumspectly in order not to lose a cheap wicket or two. If we don't make progress, the latter part of their innings could be carnage for our bowlers.

If we bat first, we'll be under pressure straight away... but sure God hates a coward and it might work out respectable :)

I'll be getting up at 6.30 Irish Time in the morning.
Will there still be something for me to follow at that stage?
If so, what stage should I expect?
I guess it will depend on whether we win toss/bat first

Can you declare in one day cricket? Saffas 525/2 Ireland 525/9 tied match. Seriously though think Saf about 380 ireland maybe 200. If they lose by about 100, beat zimbabwe and no heavy loss v pakistan or india they will qualify. Lots of games left though. Just play

Don't get to watch a lot of cricket, but was lucky enough to see de Villiers against WI a couple of months back and it was incredible to behold, even for someone who only watches sporadically. He just seemed to telegraph every single ball before it even left the bowlers hand.

A respectable defeat would be a good result. I would hope they will be focusing more on the Zimbabwe game and a heavy defeat wouldn't cause their heads to drop too much.

    South Africa batting first

    South Africa batting first

Always likely to be the case. Hopefully we can somehow restrict them

Good start with a maiden over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,691 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Maiden over to start. Don't think we'll see too many of them in this SA innings.

Wp Mooney, sporting his fine headband again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,761 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

    12-0 second over.

I'll be getting some more sleep soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,691 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Scrappy from Sorenson there. 3 sides, so a nine ball over. 12 from it

Good start overall, Sorenson needs to bowl a bit better.

    12-1

Only downside of some early wickets is it hastens the arrival of the bould AB

Lovely start. need 2 or 3 more now. Faf is a fairly orthodox player. Could slow the rate for a while hopefully.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,691 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Maiden and then a wicket maiden to start for Mooney. Classy stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,761 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

Mooney with two maidens and Sorenson undoing it.
