I like loads the Mexican, French, German and Italian anthems but for sheer emotional impact you can't beat flower of Scotland.

Just makes you want to grab a sickle in one hand and a hammer in t'other and just go to town on those imperialist American capitalist pig dogs. And I'm apolitical.

Welsh national anthem, being sung before the rugby in Cardiff

They had their chance to be "the nation once again". Seem a bit hypocritical when they sing it now

I forgot to say the Welsh one but it doesn't make me cry in the same way that Flower Of Scotland does.

I bet some very cold people will say that these anthems are too militaristic for a modern Country,(might only apply to the Irish National Anthem)

The Scottish one (again being sung before the rugby!) is a close second IMO!

Flower of Scotland isn't actually a National Anthem, well, not officially anyway.

    / pedantic.

The Italian anthem is fantastic, best by a mile, upbeat and yet its people can still sing passionately.

The French national anthem translates into 'We Surrender Unconditionally'

How does opposing militarism make one cold?

Flower of Scotland lost a lot of its sparkle for me since they voted not to send them home.

Not the best anthem but Advance Australia Fair deserves a mention.

Have to say it's hard to beat the US anthem. French one is also very good.

I love flower of Scotland, in Murrayfield, before a rugby match, especially when about half way through, the bagpipes stop and the crowd continues on. I love it, when they play Ireland in Murrayfield as you get Ireland's Call as well, double bonus.

Please stand for the national anthem.Father Ted fans will get this one!

Yes, alas there is an idiot for every topic these days.

No doubt there are people who would be "offended" by these anthems, as if that somehow means anything.

Once Jimi Hendrix played Star Spangled Banner, it was going to be tough to beat.

There was a beautiful version of the French national anthem played by a woman on violin to a crowd gathered at nightime after the Charlie Herbdo shootings. It was great, everybody silent. Saw it on Newsnight.

The Star Spangled Banner makes every other anthem feel like a sing along for children with Downs. And I'm not even American.

That Ireland call should be done away with, absouloute gick, it should be Amhran Na bhFiann, nothing else.

Best amthems: France, Russia, Germany, Brazil.

Star Spangled Banner is nausiating. Typical twee americana.

Tbh, it doesn't sound like much of a bonus. Stupid bloody song, should be banned. I've no problem with the concept of an all-Ireland anthem for the rugby, but they could have come up with something better than that sh*te.

Best anthems imo are the Russian (epic) and Italian (all over the place but great craic).

    +1 to the Italian one.

Fratelli d'Italia belted out in Rome at a Six Nations game is awesome. Hard not to get pumped up after singing it.

"S'iam pronti alla morte, Italia chiamo, ci" (presume my spelling is way off!).

    I'd say Italy also.

Wales and Scotland are not even independent countries. That's like saying Dublin's anthem is Molly Malone or Galway's is Galway Bay.

    Their anthem is GSTQ.

Best ever was Brazil's opening game at the WC last year. Bit of a long lead in but when the team and crowd continued to the second verse after the music had stopped. Epic.

The scottish people had a democratic vote.Lot's of Scottish people wanted an Independent Scotland and they voted for it to happen.Others voted for Scotland to remain part of the UK and im sure there was English people living in Scotland that also voted for that. The majority won.Scotland made it's choice and best of luck to them i say.

No problems staying in the UK but their anthem doesn't reflect that

    I like the French anthem.

    German anthem isn't too bad.
Land of my fathers is lovely.

My all time favourite is the former East German anthem.
