VT cab equipment

    I've noticed from idly looking into cabs of adjacent buses while stuck in traffic, there is a panel in the VT cab to the lower right of the instrument panel. Marked the position here(it would be behind the steering wheel)

    In some buses, this panel seems to be blank, but in others there seems to be something that looks a bit like a car stereo with an orange display.

    Can any bus drivers say what this equipment is?

    Oh, cool. Why do some buses not have it, is it being phased in?

    Aren't you supposed to have a tachograph by law?

    City buses operating within a certain radius don't require one. Tachos are fitted to some buses if the need arises to use it on a Private Hire, or similar.
