How you put on your weight

I've just noticed how many people are looking for advice on "bulking up". Looking to see some people's successful experience of this and how they managed to "bulk up". What was the secret? Was there a secret? What was your routine?

I'm not exactly huge, I'm about 83KG now and 6ft. I remember when I was 20 I moved to the States for one year. I had started in the gym before I went but hadn't seen much improvement to be honest. It may have been the food there but over the course of the year I went from about 66kg to 76 kg or so - I'm trying to remember. I've some pics of each Christmas before, during and the one after and I can see a huge difference.

I remember just eating a hell of a lot, not exactly watching my diet but just pure eating - not to mention drinking. To be gaining the weight didn't have to be as regmented as maybe some other people as now that I've levelled out I can put on weight quickly if I need to bulk and loose it quickly if I need to cut.

So I put on 10KG in 1 year, from hitting the gym extremely hard and eating a lot. No strict regime and no noticable difference fat wise. Could still see my abs and all my muscles grew a lot more. Since then been working out and 7kg more and trying to stay as lean as possible.

Ive got from 97KG to 107KG since September. And im pretty happy with that. I ate as clean as possible and shakes were my best friend. Bought a 15euro blender in argos and havent looked back. Good calorie dense foods together and tasty at that. Peanut butter, greek yougurt, milk, bananas and protein powder were the main ingredients and oats sometimes. 4 nights a week in the gym focusing on compounds. no secret. got alot of advice from here.

You found compounds are the best? I haven't done much compound stuff in a while I want to get back to it though.

    ^This tbh.

I was at my lightest mid July last year 75kg, after a training camp. I spent the next 3 months bulking. I aimed for over 3000 cal every day, and much real food as possible. This often meant peanut butter and a protein shake at bedtime just to hit the days target. A glass of milk instead of water with dinner.
after 3 months I was just over 80kg.
Aiming to cut back down now.

ah dont feel like that. ha I was able to get the calories in while eating relatively clean so why not eh. I was getting 4000 a day. Yes I did find compunds the best. For someone who was 97kg I was very strong and my numbers still arent great but they are alot better than what they were.

Im not going to say you got fat over 6 months putting on 10kg on the upper end of your weight limit while not increasing strength massively. That's for you to know.

For any newby reading this, if you put on 20kg in a year and you are not on gear, you probably added a lot of fat to your body.

But as far as putting on weight goes, eating, always works well. Hahahaha

@cabla american food (dairy) contains animal roids which is why its banned in europe. makes you big and makes you ill.

If you want to take weight gain seriously, you need to check your body fat composition. Anybody can eat a surplus of calories and gain weight. Its a hell of a lot harder to gain muscle and they is a limit on how much protein your body can synthesise in to muscle.

    Fairly silly statement there.
