It is the train station in Bourg St-Maurice which is just a few kms northeast of the last guess (otherwise how would I know this? c'est impossible.)

Was mine to vague? I thought a train station was a good landmark.

No, I meant it was impossible for me to guess where it was until you said the other place was very close. I have never had the chance to visit that part of France. But I figured "very close" meant 10-20 miles or so.

Also, my picture, not Vancouver Island BC. Will be off line soon for night (here) but if you have the right place and you're sure, post another. I will be back late afternoon (in Ireland) to see what's happening.

Ah right I thought with the discussion about the rules at the moment that my post might have been a bit tricky as not too many people were taking part.

To be honest, I didn't perceive that the building was a train station until I found it on google earth, meanwhile my picture is apparently stumping the experts, I will say that the first guess is on the right continent but the wrong ocean.

Here's another clue. If you turned around and looked in the other direction, you would be looking down the main street of a reasonably well known holiday resort town, and if you waited a few hours that island in view would not be an island.

Hope I didn't break the rules there but I don't think my picture provides enough quality clues so there you go.
