6 acres to forest, what to do?

We have 6 acres of bad land which we might want to use for family sites in the next 10 years of so.
Is it viable to get someone to plant and harvest timber on it in the short term?
If so who and what are the smallest time periods?

Is there an alternative to coniferous tree planting? If commercial planting wasn't an option is there any financial benefit to planting forest on bad land e.g. grants etc.

If commercial planting isnt an option then I'd like to try planting oak, elm, ash etc just for asthetics, but we would need some incentive to cover costs at the very least.

(We also have a farm in a different location).

I've been told it's be a 25 year minimum, to be expected, too long for our requirements.
Some good schemes out there for use if you had bad land which is of no other use.

If it's on a hill, build a mountainbike park :)
