Working stomach muscles

    Hi all - bit new to this forum & looking for a bit of help.

    Bit of background - I have quite bad IBS and while it was very volatile for a few years, I was advised by doctors against any strenuous exercises around my stomach area as this had a tendency to kick it all off. I was told I should wait until it stabilised. It has now but it's also left me with a bit of a belly & poor stomach muscles.

    I'm now looking at trying to strengthen these as this will help long term with my IBS. I'm currently doing Pilates as I was advised it would be good & finding it's working but looking to see if there's anything else I could be doing either at home or in the gym to help. I'd like to point out that while I'd love a flatter tummy, for me the main focus is strengthening the stomach muscles so that it benefits my health more so.

    Any advice is gratefully received :)

    Planks and side planks.

    Cable ab pulldowns (make sure to do these properly) and/or ab wheel rollouts as well.

    Sit ups too.
