It needs a Brendan Fraser cameo, it reminds me of his films, Blast from the Past and Caveman

Just watched the first episode - super promising, laughed a lot, very excited to watch the rest!

On the flip-side, I watched the first episode and thought it was pretty damn dreadful.

Gutted as I was a massive 30 Rock fan! :(

I watched a couple of the episodes and they're very enjoyable.

There's some really funny and unexpected writing there, so many jokes but it doesn't feel like it's just "joke, joke, joke" if you get me.

Mariah Carey will not be happy!

Season 1 of this is on netflix now, who else has been watching? I'm loving it, its hilarious, and incredibly quotable!

On ep. 4 now and liking it very much so far! Kemper is excellent, as is the entire cast really.

That plastic surgeon scene was hilarious! :D

On to Epp 4 now and i am really enjoying it so far. Its so 30 rock with the kind of jokes in it and everyone who's in it all have a part and there all funny just like 30 rock.

I am happy as well this didn't end up on NBC as i don't think it would have worked on mainstream network tv as its to odd for people to get !!!

Can't imagine liking 30 Rock and NOT liking this tbh - found this had a much more assured beginning than 30R too... Maybe give it a couple more eps, really thought the season went from strength to strength!

Loving this! Titus is the best :D

Yeah, will give it a few more episodes later in the week.

But just found a lot of what I saw in the first episode a bit tired - prime example being that "autotune the news" bit - it's been 5 years since Antoine Dodson and "The Bed Intruder" song, let's move past it.

I agree but I thought that was kind of the point. Like, in the news broadcast they didn't even bother broadcasting the un-autotuned version, they just automatically autotuned it because that's what the people want.

I like the show so far. It's very silly but dark at the same time. It's a hard balance to achieve.

Finished all 13 episodes this evening. Really, really did like it!

That Tina Fey cameo was hilarious too - her wig :D

I thought that was actually quite a neat way to move the story on, fill in a bit of the backstory and get a laugh really quickly.

The set-up for the show was done so well and so efficiently. Quality writing.

I've only watched two episodes so far but it's been enjoyable enough to make sure I go back for more. Some excellent jokes and good characters.

This show is so funny, and ridiculously quotable

    'NEGATIVE ONE DOLLAR!'
    'Troll the respawn, Jeremy!'
'I'm not saying that Kimmy Schmidt is solely responsible for all of our towns troubles. But if she had stayed in Durnsville like a real American, I know for a fact all of you would be rich right now.'

Jonn Ham is a brilliant comedy actor.

I wasn't loving the first episode, but the 2nd is much better IMO. I can definitely see it getting old quickly though.

Loving this. Kimmy and Tituss have a fantastic chemistry. It's such a dark subject but the writing is great.

Watched the first few last night.... this is great. :)

I know it's early to say, but it's hard to picture anyone else playing Kimmy's role - Ellie Kemper's energy is infectious.

I watched all 13 episodes on Friday night, and I really enjoyed it. I think the cast has great chemistry, I love all of the 90s references, and it's so quotable. My favorite moments by far are the surprise appearances by
Jon Hamm (perfectly, perfectly cast - that video they find of him in the bunker - oh my god) and Tina Fey. When they showed the preacher from behind in one of the early episodes, I recognized his voice but couldn't place it, and I knew, from the fact that they didn't show his face, that it would be someone well known. I should have gotten the hint when Kiernan Shipka showed up as Kimmy's half sister.

I really enjoyed this. So dark, yet so bubbly!

This show has the most annoyingly catchy theme song ever.

I didn't immediately realize it, until they mentioned that they were "famously incompetent", but "Marcia" and "Chris" were the OJ Simpson prosecutors, Marcia Clark and Christopher Darden. Which explains trying to get the Reverend to try on the glove. They once described themselves as ''closer than lovers''.

Yeah. Liked the first episode but wasn't enthralled but it took off like a rocket. Basically every episode got better.

    The sign in the library;
    "no food or drink,

Only have 1 ep left, really enjoying it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,413 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Am up to episode 11 now and it's definitely improved!

I'm definitely not enjoying it as much as '30 Rock', but it's definitely worth a watch!

The leads are all great, despite Jane Krakowski basically playing Jenna Maroney again..

Jon Hamm has been the show-stealer so far though to be honest.. even only in the one episode he's been in, he's been getting some serious belly-laughs from me.

Anyone else wish the plastic surgeon was Dr Spaceman?

Finished this last night, very enjoyable.
Ellie Kemper is very likeable (if playing the same character as in the Office ;))

    Love/Hate the theme tune!

I've only watched three or four so far.

The Native American parents? Am I imagining it or did the mother sound exactly like Roseanne?

I don't think is that funny at all - instead it has a kind of knowing clever humour that is not really funny, depends what you're into I suppose but most of the characters are cariacatures as far as I can see and it's just not very interesting

I've watched about 3 episodes of this and I'm not really loving it. Then again, I don;t think I've ever watched an episode of 30 Rock either. I got a few giggles out of it, might watch another one or two to see what happens!

    And as for that ending...

Finished all of them at the weekend. I think it really grows, but the penultimate episode was a bit meh.

    That was just fun.

Ellie Kemper's smile & energy is contagious and you can't help but smile along.

I am a big fan of 30 Rock but I thought it was very average. It wasn't awful but I wouldn't be pushed into watching any more of it. I almost felt like I was forcing myself to finish the season. The stand out character for me is Tituss.

Same, well I'd go so far as to say I just didn't like it. It felt very average nbc style family comedy to me, a bit too over the top and slapstick without being particularly clever or witty.

The last two episodes while funny enough were of a totally different format which threw it a bit. Sure it went back to the original story but until then it was a "family"/work comedy ( family being her rental home). Also played on the rich-poor divide for comedy. I liked the 15 year old and how she played off Kimmy.

She was banished. The whole thing moves out of New York. Last two episodes were -- although they had some of the same characters -- not in the same "situation" which is odd for sit-coms. I mean many sitcoms never leave a house. Hence the name: Situation comedies. It seemed like a vechicle for Hamm and Fey to turn up and, well, ham it up.

Also the trial was a bit over the top -- a bit SNL.

But that mid season situation was working so looking forward to that being repeated next season.

One has to remember that about the first half of this show was written as a serialised network TV show. That is a totally different type of format than a binge-watch-style Netflix show.

That obviously doesn't address Eugene Norman's dislike of the latter part of the season, but it does address the reason there is a shift away from the initial set-up.

Well just the last two. Individually they were ok but in general I think that they were striking gold in New York.

Tina Feys comedies can be hit and miss.

I must thank this show for making me watch 30 Rock.

As someone who watches quiet a bit of tv I can't believe I had never watched 30 Rock before.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,559 ✭✭✭✭AnonoBoy

I enjoyed it. As Eugene Norman has pointed out the trial episodes felt different to what had been established in the series so far so were a bit disappointing.

The majority of the show I found endearingly silly though. Very enjoyable.

Only started watching this this week and I'm really enjoying. Only on episode 5 but it's great fun, very 30 Rock in its sense of humour. I knew I would like it as soon as I saw Kimmy on the subway saying "weeee" like she was on a fairground ride.

Favourite line so far; I was auditioning for an all black version of Oklahoma called Alabama.

Also, I lve had the theme tune stuck in my head for 3 days now.

    That was just fun.

Ellie Kemper's smile & energy is contagious and you can't help but smile along.

She was one of the reasons The US Office was funny to watch with all her madcap actions.
I'm only up to 4th ep, but yeah loving her enthusiasm & trying to recreate her 'Breakfast Club' pose at end of Ep3 :)

Sadly my other fav funny redhead KGillan didnt fare as well with Selfie :o

Why You Can’t Get the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Theme Song out of Your Head

Check out the Songify This! version on Youtube

It certainly stands out, long after the show's finished, but if you want to hear the full length version here :D

    UNBREAKABLE! THEY'RE ALIVE DAMMIT! IT'S A MIRACLE!

That has literally been stuck in my head since I started watching the show again.

I watched episode 1 back in March when the show debuted on Netflix. Found it a bit meh and still had a few seasons of The Office left so continued on with that instead. But I went back to it last week and am really enjoying it so far.

Apparently the plastic surgeon from episode 4 was based on a real person, who actually took his own life recently :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,508 ✭✭✭ShazGV

Binge watched it this evening, really enjoyed it. I agree that the trial episodes weren't as strong imo, Jon Hamm was definitely a good choice but wasn't too pushed about Tina Fey.

I liked the dynamic between Kimmy & Xan, hopefully she's back next season.

Oh, and I also have the theme song stuck in my head. They're alive, dammit!
