    Hi everyone,

Secret Flying has posted an error fare from the UK to USA paying through the United airlines Danish website.

Anyone of any workaround ideas as this needs a danish billing address? Apologies to the mods if not acceptable in the right forum.

    Thanks

I have a confirmation email. think I just made it through.

I'm guessing the chances of this being honored are fairly grim?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,850 ✭✭✭FouxDaFaFa

I saw this on Facebook and took a chance on it but it's extremely unlikely it will be honoured.

I need to book a flight to the US later this year anyway so it's worth trying!

Have a reservation number but no final confirmation email yet.

Just missed out myself, sickened. It was worth a try but I'd say the chances of it being honoured are zero. But you may get the flights for the same price but in economy but how bad at those prices.

Where did you all get billing addresses?

Even with that I'd say it'll get cancelled.

I managed to get booked and confirmed...awaiting the cancelation email!!

Yup keeping positive about this one! I booked with my Irish billing address, country marked as Denmark :O

We'll see how it goes. Best of luck!!!

I got it booked, waiting for it to be confirmed! Hope the cancellation emails are quick if they happen!

I have two pending charges from United for the one transaction, both for different amounts and neither of them are (and they don't add up to) the total I was given!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 727 ✭✭✭Ms Happy

Used Irish address with Denmark as the country

checked the booking on United and it says:

"This reservation was ticketed and confirmed on Wed., Feb. 11, 2015 at 9:07 a.m. Central Time"

Hopefully it will be resolved quickly, either the confirmation or the refund!

Huge thread on flyertalk, where many folks got in early & had e-tickets issued.

Did you notice two pending bank charges too? Anyone else?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,928 ✭✭✭crushproof

Booked earlier on when I spotted it on a travel blog. Quickly booked but next thing I knew Twitter etc exploded so I'm now just expecting the cancellation email.
Though to be fair there was plenty of first class seats available when I booked so you never know....they might be feeling EXTRAORDINARILY generous*.

    *nah, not a chance.

feck was so close but just didn't let me through at the final hurdle. Now it is not giving the option of a Danish billing address.

    Yep, 2 pending charges €120.79 & €70.10!

Mine was pretty much exactly €60 more than it was meant to be when I added up the charges. Bizarre. Can't complain if they honour the flights, but odd nonetheless!

I just checked and I have two charges which combined add up to what I was quoted.

People who think it's higher than it's supposed to be might be forgetting the conversion fee from DKK to Euro.

No, I'm not. 744 DKK is €99.95 - even allowing for bank conversation rates, €160 is off!

After reading the thread on flyertalk, I'd say there's no chance of them letting all the thousands of people who have booked getting this offer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,027 ✭✭✭sunshine and showers

Was worth a shot, though! :P

    Yep very True.

I can see mine if I click onto my receipt, but I haven't been sent an eticket yet.

    Same here.
Just looked at the flyertalk forum and the amount of people on it. Not a chance they will issue tickets to the possible thousands that bought them!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,027 ✭✭✭sunshine and showers

Hope the refunding process is swift, so. I need to actually take the flights I booked!

Edit: I looked at my online receipt and the flight total was 666 DKK, which is about €89.50 - the amount of one of the pending charges on my bank account. No idea where the random extra €70 came from! One was "united airlines" and the other was "UNITED"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,597 ✭✭✭Witchie

Am actually sick. Was about to pay when accidentally clicked out of the page and panicked so didn't go back using history until after 20 mins so it had expired. Was panicking trying to retrieve it in different ways.

    Damn my stupidity.

united have charged USD80 for each booking. that is the 70euros you see

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 NoBetterMan

I managed to get flights booked, got my reservation email but no confirmation as of yet. Booked it from Heathrow, but I believe it was possible to book from Belfast too! Still, as long as that confirmation comes I'm one happy camper!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,027 ✭✭✭sunshine and showers

I got my eticket after two hours of waiting! Now to pray they either cancel them quick or not at all!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 238 ✭✭Music4life

They've done it in the past. Someone booked it via western union and said they wont honor the tickets. who knows.

    http://www.ibtimes.com/will-united-airlines-honor-free-tickets-sold-after-filing-error-thursday-1405232
The ensuing debate became one off the first big tests of the Department of Transportation’s new passenger protection rules, which went into effect January of last year. Among a host of other protections, the rules mandate that airlines can no longer increase the price of a ticket after it's been sold, even when the fare is a “mistake.”

Be interesting to see what happens...

It could be an authorisation fee, like the way Itunes puts a $1 in your "pending" when you buy songs.

If they honour the two flights to Seattle I paid 90 quid for, they can have the €80! :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,130 ✭✭✭mel.b

If they honour this I'll be gutted I missed out :( I saw a post early on on facebook but thought it also said for Irish airports. Tried for a few minutes for flights from DUB over the Xmas period but wasn't getting anything so either thought 1: it's gone or 2: not valid over Xmas. Looks like if I tried from LHR i might have been in with a chance.

Up to nearly 100 pages at this stage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭XrayGolf

I don't see the tickets being honoured, especially given the number of people who booked at this fare & the amount of $ UA is set to lose.

However, stranger things have happened, so who knows the lucky might get luckier!

You will probably lose on the exchange conversion when you get the refund.

    Not always true.
I get stuff refunded on my credit card and exchange rate has never been worse!
If it is, ring the cc company and explain it's a refund, they will reverse it at same rate.

Anyone going to bother filling out one of those US Department of Transport complaint forms?
