Making a start... again

    Not sure if this is the right section really - feel free to move.

    I've been watching various boards here for a long time but have never posted.
    I was hoping to get some feedback and experiences from others here that perhaps have successfully made the progress that I'd like to make.

    I'm looking to really turn my life around in terms of fitness and diet. I have an absolutely ridiculous work ethic and I'd like to channel that into improving my fitness and diet.

    I have a busy job - most of my time is spent sitting down at my desk or on a laptop (days at desk can extend to 12+ hours). I have minimal physical activity and I have never had any interest in sports.

    With other commitments, the only time I can really put in the effort is between 5 - 6AM (or before) - which is something I am willing to do but I'd like to understand how I can get the most from this. Anytime I've tried anything to do with a gym, I've always been pushed towards cardio - I really feel that this is something I don't need a gym for. .... I'm not even sure if I should be running / walking / lifting weights / doing body weight exercises etc.

    I like food... not just bad food, but everything (not sure if that works for or against me). Unfortunately, my diet is focused around convenience and is terrible. The biggest obstacle for me - I am ALWAYS hungry. I've tried everything. I'd be interested to get any idea of what others making the transition have done to deal with this.


    It's very clear to me that I only I can really do something about this but, I'd really appreciate any input or to hear experiences of others!

    Try eating energy dense foods such as fruit and veg. Make sure you get your 5 a day . It is easy and convenient to bring an apple / bananna with you to work and they give great energy boosts .

    If you have no time then cook fresh food and just reheat it rather than eating processed foods .


    I only do cardio myself . Find it great for relieving stress . Set a goal like running a 5k or something . Take break days in between . Run every second day .

    The fact you are always hungry leads me to think you are not eating correctly.

    Can you give us an accurate reflection of what a full day eating would be?

    Your current height and weight? Build.

    I see you are willing to wake up ridiculously early. Will this mean sacrificing sleep?

    Your diet is the problem. Getting some exercise in would be beneficial but as regards what you should be doping, just do something you enjoy. If you try to make yourself do something you won't enjoy, you won't stick at it. Especially if you are making yourself get up at all hours just to get it done.

    It sounds like you're always hungry because you make the wrong food choices. Long hours make convenience king.

    The solution: preparation.

    Couple of hours at the weekend would see you prep good lunches and dinners for a big chunk of your week. Proper food at hand means you're less likely to pick rubbish food because it's convenient.

    Couple of hours at the weekend would see you prep good lunches and dinners for a big chunk of your week. Proper food at hand means you're less likely to pick rubbish food because it's convenient.

    The solution: slow cooker. 5 mins prep at night, delicious dinner when you get back from work the next day.
