Seeing as this is the music forum, and I love my tunes, and happen to make my own stereo systems, a little bit different from the ones you can buy in the shops, I though I'd bosh up a picture of one I made and get yer views. Whatcher think? :D

Probably the ugliest stereo I've ever seen. Can't imagine a parcel shelf speaker stuffed inside an alloy rim sounds too hot either.

hah, you'd be amazed. ;) Haoengus is tone-deaf anyway so it wouldn't matter, that and he only hears the voices inside his head.

    I'm quite confident that I wouldn't.

Slight nod to B&O, but very impractical. Sound-wise car door speakers generally offer little in the way of bass (sub-35/40Mhz).
Also importantly there are many issues with Safety, portability and most critically of all 'User Ergonomics'.

Don't mean to sound harsh, but design and research, should come before development.

If you want to get on the hipster bandwagon and make some fast, easy cha-ching, this sort of thing is the way to go:

I'd say that would've looked great in a Halford's stand on the Max Power road tour back in '99, pumping out the latest Euphoria mix. Not very practical for anyone who actually likes to listen to music though.

If that's a car radio in there? The using a 12v/240v inverter isn't ideal for domestic use.
I'd flog off whatever stock you have outside of the next Topgear on-tour gig's carpark.
Do the recycled suitcases instead (less materials/welding needed), just a jig'.

Don't forget to foam up the insides for extra sub-freq-bass, and check Ohm ratings
    - if going serial/parallel across twin subs, mids and tweeters.

I make em for me, not to sell. And happily, I like them. Also, I have a fair few bits of high end hi-fi gear, regular stuff. This set-up sounds better. Simple as. Also, I like '90's Dance music. "Not everyone likes the same things" shocker. ;)

Looks like the type of thing that would sell well out of the back of a Hiace at the Ballinasloe Fair. I'm sure the CEO of BOSE is worried about this plucky young upstart sound system company from Ireland.

While I fully realize you're not the sharpest tool in the shed, surely even you didn't miss the "I made this for me" bit? Oh, you did? Damn. That's bad.

Something welded together using a car radio and a few alloys sounds better than a hi-fi system made by companies who specialise in what they do? Excuse me while I chuckle away at such a preposterous suggestion. You might need to get your ear wax syringed.

I'm sure it's better then some of your other sound systems, for example a 5w transistor radio thrown into an empty barrel.

    Jesus. That's desperate looking.

Some lads I worked with made a portable radio using a truck battery, some speakers and a wheelie bin.

It sounded shyte but it looked better than your creation. :o

In his post from 10PM last night. There really is no accounting for taste. The vast vast majority of people would suggest that it's an ugly and poorly designed hobbyist effort. I'm sure the type of people who own subaru jackets and have alloys on their white van might think it looks 'cool' or 'bleedin' deadly'.

I'm amazed you get time to post angus, what with the high-flying career in banking and the germany and stuff. I doubt this would be your sort of thing, far too common. It wouldn't fit on yer bike anyway and you'd need a home of some sorts with power to plug it into. You keep on rockin with yer Walkman. Or Listening to a spot of classical music, while sipping riesling in yer penthouse. Depending on which reality you currently inhabit. What's the weather like in Galway?

Thank you Mick, I will. I pay these nerd o wells no heed, they're only jealous anyway. The last thing most of them made was a sandcastle at Brittas when they were 7 and even those were shyte. Several of them struggle to tie their own shoelaces and are doomed to wear grey slip-ons forever. They are bad people, even their mammies don't like them.

Whoa what's with all the hate? The lad did something on his own... Kudos for the DIY. Yes it might not be to everyone's taste but how many of the negative posters made something similar themselves? Or at least would have the mind/tools/know-how to do it?

Chillax, the lad isn't selling and he isn't looking for your acceptance but that doesn't mean that it's cool to slag for no reason.

Appreciated. These neggers were really hurting my feelings with their jealousy. I wouldn't mind, but two of them have since PM'd me begging me to sell it to them, but I haughtily refused. It's mine. Get yer own.

I'm sorry, Fellow poster, but these are not for sale, as I have told the dozens of people who have PM'd me looking to buy. Strictly for my own use - this one is going into the little fellas bedroom so he can listen to Biggie in style. Maybe PM Angus? - He has all sorts of stuff for sale, generally. He's always flogging something.

If I feel the strong desire to purchase a deceased horse, he'll be the first point of contact ;)

Not a bad setup mate. Top marks for doing something different. Mabye more bass oriented speakers with separate tweeters beside them and a double din touch screen would be cooler. And thicker connecting legs too, but otherwise, its kinda cool :o

Thank's for your positive comments, it is refreshing after the uncalled for deluge of negativity aimed my way. I was really reeling at the venom displayed by some of the previous posters. Hardly my fault they have yet to be connected to the national grid and have to grind out their tunes on the same old axe that their grandads used to own. Astounding rudeness. Especially when any fool with two eyes can see this is a thing of beauty and sophistication, with excellent sound thrown in as a bonus.

I think they have them already Shep Lover, blue lights that is.. These may not be aerodynamic enough for that purpose. Could go well on an ice-cream van, seeing as they're so feckin cool. ;) It looks a lot nicer IRL, -much like myself. Don't photograph well, it's a curse.

I thought so too Johnny. I don't get the slagging tbh, it does exactly what i want it to do, it looks cool irl, plays the sort of music I like really well and is a bit of craic. I can only assume the feckers are jealous.

It doesn't have colouredy lights that change colour though, so it isn't as good. IMO. Still sounds excellent though. Crisp and bassey. Looks well too.

Nice. I reckon a different colour might do well too. Or two, even. A single colour all round might lead to a product being called bland.

Mabye painting the rims a nice gloss black, while painting the very edges yellow, or red would be a nice touch.

It isn't a "product" Renegade, it's a bit of fun. My bit of fun. As Angris said, you need to wash out yer ears. At least I think that's what he said, I tend to gloss over a lot of what he posts these days, he has become a bit of a parody of himself. Germany doesn't appear to agree with him. I'd say he misses home, bless.

thats a nice bit of engineering

But you are implying that this has been through process of proper 'engineering' ?

With any intention to solve an issue, or improve upon an already existing solution?

Does this demonstrate an efficient use of materials, technology and form factors? Does it comply with any product design or even legal guidelines? Would it even receive a basic pass grade from an entry level product design course. Are we really all 'well jell'?

As OP stated it's just a bit of personal fun, 'tis all it is.

Why do you have two threads on the exact same thing?

Also 'bassy' is never a good thing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,586 ✭✭✭4068ac1elhodqr

Bassy is a very good thing, so long as it is complimented with mid-range and top frequencies. EQs can be altered with presets anyway.
The most expensive speakers try to capture everything from sub-35 up to 20,000 Hz to best emulate live/real sound.
This is only best achievable buy using pairs of woofers(reflex ports), good mid-rangers and tweeters.
This yoke has one pair of car door speakers probably offering 70-18,000 on average RMS.
