I will be going to this tomorrow, and looking at the card, it looks to be an absolute cracker. Vercingetorix was one I had my eye on last time out, and it battered an admittedly poor opposition at Limerick. Kalkir opposes it tomorrow, but quite frankly, having watched its last run, I just cannot understand why the market favours it. One looks the real deal as a hurdler, the other just looks like hype - you can make your own mind up. In the next, Mount Corkish Girl is another who I've been keeping my eye on. Had my eye on it last time out when it won handily, much to my frustration. Can't help but feel there is more of a horse than what we saw that day, and that it could very well go and win again tomorrow. Trainer has no form whatsoever, but this horse has went very well in its last two runs, so at 9/1, I think you have to give this one an ew chance here. The novice hurdle is another red hot affair, with a host of horse who would fancy their chances. Again, I have to bypass the favourite of Tony Mccoy (who will undoubtedly be heavily supported given that this might be his final time around Leopardstown) and plumb for Ruby Walsh on Nicholas Canyon. I suspect that this one will be in a straight shoot out with McCoy at the final. Valseur Lido won by half a track on both of the last two times, I cannot see it being beat, especially since it's beaten second favourite handily already. 11/8 looks as good as any price as you can get. No more to be said. Avoiding the next, but Pulled Mussel at 10/1 looks minor value if I had to be pushed. That brings us to the main, event, the Gold Cup, and really, there's any of five horses that could be backed here. For me, I think I will have to stick with Lord Windmere, a horse who I maintain does not come good until the Spring.Any runs it has had under its belt will stand it in good stead, and not leave too many marks on it. As for the hunter chase - that looks to be the most wide open renewal of this race for years. Personally, I have looked at 4 who have a chance, and I simply can't pick between any of them. Will probably just keep an eye on the odds, and use price as an indicator of chances. That just leaves us with the bumper. I can't have the Rothwell horse, and Bromhead's could be anything, so that leaves us with the two Gigginstown runners. Cannot back a 4/6 shot, so if anything the second favourite at 3/1 is worth a go.

Lord Windemere my only bet tomorrow 6/1 3pts win. Have also has a few quid AP NRNB as if he wins this tomrrow he will come in about 8s.

Don't let that put you off, Callaghans have a small string of horses but they're well able to train winners and if money arrives it's rare they don't collect.

Foxrock for the big one for me - impressive weight carrying performance the last day, don't think its a great race for the grade, hasn't a whole lot to find on the book, so as a young horse on the improve, I think he can - better jumper than Carlingford Lough, whose stable haven't had a winner in 6 months.

think the two favs will win the novice races, with Elliot to win the juvenile.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,722 ✭✭✭posturingpat

Foxrock would have to be a hardy boy to go and win that race tomorrow having run in 2 competitive handicaps in the past 6 weeks or so and stepping into grade 1 company for the 1st time in open company.

Very open race to my eyes,if i was betting i'd be inclined to have a small e/w bet on Texas Jack as he has good course form and isn't as far off the rest as his price would suggest.

I like Elliotts in the Juvenile hurdle, hopefully he's as good as they think. I think the hotpot will be beat in the Novice chase with Apache stronghold reversing the form from their previous meeting and Le vent d'antan could run a nice race too.

The Novice hurdle is an absolute cracker, god knows who'll win it. Blair perrone going to spin out the back before going for a handicap in March? Very possible i reckon :pac:

Every race i look at i seem to have 3 or more that could be there abouts at the end, so small stakes in the main for the day.

Think Elliot's will win the first, can see the meade horse being placed, so going just lay Kalkir at the prices.
Tri ni Ceile and Killeena House are both calling out to me in the 2nd, but will carry very small money
Windsor Park e/w in the deloitte, doesn't look an outstanding grade 1
Wont back or lay the fav in the novice chase, have had an e/w bet on Apache stronghold and expect him to give a better account than last time they met, bet of the day for me
Pulled Muscle small money e/w bet in the next, only because id be raging if he won and i hadn't backed him
Have backed Carlingford Lough am now worried about trainer form, also back First Lieutenant e/w in the race, you could run this race 8 times and have 7 different winners
Think On the Fringe will run a better race than at down royal

luckily i have no opinion on the last at all!
Great days racing though , looking forward to getting up and watching it in the morning, best of luck to all

Kalkir strong win bet for me , believe me , great value tonight at 6/4

Thought alisio at the price was a lay

Can't have fox rock for the big one , would have it between on his own and first lieu taint

Would be keen enough to take on VL. Apache Stronghold and Le Vant D'antan are no mugs. Can't help but think D'Antan may be better over a bit further. Fav seems short

Soll looks a bad fav in that veteran's race at Exeter. Two at a price I'd be tempted by are Golden Chieftan and Wayward Prince, 12/1 and 25/1. Not sure I'm tempted enough to back, though

I quite like the look of Officieux, Apache Stronghold and Lord Windemere all topped up with a lovely dollop of Salsify.

Great days racing, really looking forward to the Hunters Chase.

Think McKinley's win lto wasn't just a fluke, and is worth an e/w squeak at a big price

As an observer from across the pond I have found that that misogyny of the average Irish punter is something I have exploited to my advantage.

Exciting racing today big punt on Valseur Lido in the Novice chase for me
if Alvisio Ville is as good as they say he is he will win also but he too short for me after just winning a maiden hurdle

Had a quick look at that race last night and i'd b inclined to agree with you, both GC and WP look well handicapped on anything close to their best form,i'll be particularly interested in GC he's still only 10 and it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility he'd go to that 3 mile chase at the festival again if showing some spark today, without winning of course :P

Im actually confident that Boston Bob will win today with Townend on board, Ruby has never really got the best out of him. think Townend will have him more in touch than Ruby normally does.

Just got a text in anybody interested for Betfair. Back a winner sp 3/1 or bigger in Ireland get two free bets for the same stake think max 25.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,579 ✭✭✭prettyboy81

I think the Champion Bumper winner could run a big race today & I've backed him e/w at 14/1 Silver Concorde.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,340 ✭✭✭sdoc13

Alviso ville 2/1 on Betfair sportsbook for next 15 min. Max 50.

I hope to back him at Cheltenham but I'd be avoiding him today, he doesn't seem to act on flat tracks

I was thinking the same. it would be interesting if he won today, he would have to be well fancied for the supreme.

Does this automatically apply or is it on the site somewhere?

Is that one Nicola from Coral wearing an earpiece, she talks like she is repeating what someone else is saying. "He didn't suit the ground", what the hell are you talking about?

Ambion Wood looks a decent bet at 20/1 in the 2:25 in Exeter, carrying a stone less than Aubusson.

I have added Alviso Ville at the betfair enhanced price 2/1.

Also backed Golden Chieftan at 12s and Dalasari at 40s.

Great racing really looking foreward to it. Cheltenham picture should be a bit clearer after today.

And if the opposite happens and they drift, they tend to be given iffy rides. Lynch was atrocious there.

Disappointing start for Mullins with two short favourites beaten, poor Willie. Lol

    Hagree 66-1 ew 4.40
Has really dropped down the ratings. Nice draw and weight here.
    I like ew.

I didn't want to come on criticising as it's a tough job but i'd agree it wasn't his best ever ride.

Petite Parisienne 10/1 for the triumph, its only entry at the festival. Form looks solid at least with Kalkir and Nichols Canyon backing it up

What a ride by Carberry..touched 45 ir on betfair

Was thinking Apache stronghold was going to dog it at one stage there but in fairness he stuck his neck out and was gutsy. That's my day covered :D

    Sardinia 25-1 ew
I really like this. Bottom weight here.
Has run well over this ground and distance in good times.

She won't be getting tons of weights at the Festival. Think it's the one race where English have us covered

Is Foxrocks mark allocated for the Baylis Handicap in Cheltenham, they must only be running him here cause they think he is a Gold Cup horse.

Two out Carlingford had no rhythm ,must have been a decent price at that stage. A lesser man might have not believed it was possible to get Carlingford into a winning stride, that connection two out between man and horse was epic .

Very nice run from Lord Windermere.

Was counting my money when they swung in.

Did €3 ew fourfold on Apache, Lord Windemere, Kalkir and Windsor Park and got €70 back so no real harm done.

Nice bets on Fingal Bay and Salsify to get things ticking along for March :D
