The Belated Autumn 2014 Results Thread

Come one, come all, to the official (not official) thread for the Autumn results! For all your QCA question needs!

Results were fair enough. 2 B1s, a B3 and a C3. Can't complain about them at all really. Really disappointed with the B1s though. Thought I'd have got the A in at least one of those. But realistically it's what I probably deserved.

    How'd everyone else get on?

Scraped a pass in the infamous Engineering Maths 3, happy enough.

Okay so I got my results and I sort of knew I'd fail one. And surprise surprise, I failed it! There was personal circumstances as to why I failed it though and I've been told an I grade could be an option which I intend on looking into.

My problem is that I didn't secure a 2.0 QCA (1.88) and for my Erasmus which will be in Jan/Feb of next year (2016) I need at least a 2,0. I've emailed my course director and I'm waiting to hear back but I'm wondering does my whole end of year QCA count towards a spring Erasmus or am I royally screwed and doomed to a QCA of 1,88 and a semester stuck here rather than mainland Europe somewhere? If I pull my socks up and get a great QCA this semester and resit the fail, I should be eligible for the 2016 spring Erasmus?

Any help or info would be appreciated considering that UL have ****ed up the exam response so badly and they won't even talk to me until the proper, final results our out!

    Thanks in advance kind souls
    xoxo

Got a B1 in a module I didn't do particularly well in for the final exam (horrible paper, got bad stomach pains throughout) :D Though I did only get a B3 in a different exam which I was expecting a B1/A2 in, especially considering how well I did in the CA aspect of the module. Guess I'll be going back to view that paper, especially since that grade is bringing down my QCA :/

Hey all, just asking whether or not the lecturers can give out your percentage you got? Normally I wouldn't bother my hole, but I'm 0.02 off getting a presidents letter, and one change upward would see me get it... Put in a good shift this semester...

If you can let me know from prior experience/knowledge that'd be great.

    Regards,

    le moi

I'd say they would. If you view your script your grade percentage will be on the front of it

Hopefully they will... if they reply to my email that is :)

Would have to take a day off work to view scripts, so if I knew the percent, and how close (or far away) I am from the upper grade, then that would sway my decision to go and view...

    Thanks for the reply iLaura

This may be a silly question but is there a fee to get exams rechecked? I'm so close to a presidents letter :(

€25 deposit, if grade changes, you get it back .

I'm on 3.48 so it's tempting... Hoping to find out grade % and see how close I am. Just need one grade change upwards! :O

1 A 3 B's and a C happy out with that, especially considering the amount of lectures and tutorials I missed. Lucozade is my hero :P

Got 1 A2, 2 B1's and 1 B2. I'm in my final year with a provisional accumulated QCA of 3.16. No way I'm getting a first class honours now and if I don't get a 1.1 I'm not going to the graduation. A 2nd class honours in English and History seems like a joke to me, especially a low second class honours. :( Useless marks for a useless degree. If I can't get a 1.1 in something like English and history then I'm hopeless!

That's fairly hard on yourself. It's also kind of hard on anyone else doing an Arts degree like that, given the small proportion of people who graduate with a 1.1 in any degree.

In fairness, the day of results is always difficult if you're unpleasantly surprised. The fact of the matter however is that very few graduate employers seek 1.1s, most of them have 2.1s as their limit. Academic results will get you an interview, but they won't get you a job.

    Finally got a 2.1 grade.....only took me 5 years to get over a 2.2 :D

    1 A, 2 B's and a C1, delighted!

Thought I failed the one with the C1 or at least went down a number of grades (it was German) and thought I got a C or B3 in the A module, considering all my friends got C's!

    Thank goodness..

3.11 QCA...please stay like that for my 2.2!

Both my brothers got 1.1's. I guess I'm comparing myself to them which is a waste of time as they've always been academically better than me. I just don't think I could go to the graduation if I got less than a 1.1 though I know my family would be at me to go guess I would just feel bad because I'd have done poorer than them.

Precious flower. You can only be the best at what you do. No one else can do it for you. You can't spend your life comparing yourself to others. It's your life. You should be proud of going to college and getting good results for you! Why wouldn't you go to graduation. You've spent 4 years working for it....

I'm not happy at all with the delay in the results. According to a lecturer I had the problems
with the current system were well known and had been flagged for correction.

Heard SFA from the SU about this matter. They should be baying for blood or getting assurances
that this will never happen again.

My own results: 2B1s, 1 B2, 1 B3 and a C1. Rather surprised about the B3 (thought I failed that module) and was hoping one of the B1s would be an A2. QCA was 2.96 and am going to see if I can get it bumped up to a 3.

Depending on the course, doesnt missing two or more labs instantly result in an F grade?

Were you sick for those labs? Normal procedure in that case is just to submit a med cert once you're in again.

How does one go about viewing scripts in Kemmy?

How in the name of god does one go about finding the form for viewing scripts? I'm looking for one for the physics department and the life sciences one, and I may as well be looking for an escape route from Guantanamo

I just went into the physics department office and asked and they sorted it there. Not sure about life science but try the lecturer maybe?

Thanks! Where abouts is the department office? Is it C0 or C1?

Nothings changed anyway. I've never got my stuff reviewed before so this may be a stupid question but can I get essays reviewed that I did during the module or is it just actually exams that you can review? How does that work anyway do they just get an outside person to look at it and doesn't that just happen anyway with essays? Thanks :)

I found it :P And when I got there at like 2 there was a sign up on her door and she wont be back in till tomorrow. What good is that to me seeing as how the deadline is today? -.-

I thought they changed the application dates when the results were delayed? Id say even send David an email tomorrow or drop by his office and ask about it (think its his module you're on about). That's what I did you education today and the lecturer is going to go over the paper with me tomorrow.

I'm not sure what the date is, I thought that results.ul.ie showed that today was the deadline? I emailed David (kinda strange that you know he was my lecturer :P) and he said to just email yer wan anyways and that she should understand.

I do phys and chem science ed and am in 4th year so I would have done the module in 2nd year. Seeing as you were on about life sciences and physics I figured you were biology and physics and the only 3rd year would work for the modules so I had a 50/50 chance of being right it was either going to be him or whoever does semi conductors

Ah, this makes a lotta sense :P Christophe Silien is the semiconductors guy

Depends on department. For us, 30% is a D2.

When I was doing languages it was 40% for a D2 and 48% for a C3 so it really depends on the department / faculty.

You should have been given a grade breakdown at the start of the semester, so it should be in there. Some of our lecturers have deviated from the department marking scheme on occasion.
