Does anyone know where I could find good instructions to gently build a basic core fitness. Ive seen a program online for "crossed posture syndrome" but its megabucks and I don't want all of it.

I need to help reverse effects of long years of study and long hours of office work.

(I am seeing a good physiotherapist but want to educate myself also)

Btw.. planks and the like are out until I am stronger and have more mobility..

I had a chronic upper back problem due to the way my back grew. I'm not sure if it was similar to what you have, I've never heard of that but I started convict conditioning at home. look it up in gogle images and just start trying to do the most basic of each of the 6 exercises. It worked for me, my posture is so much better and I get WAY less pain. Pull ups have changed everything

I couldn't do a pull up to save my life.

You don't start off doing them, but you do get there. You just start off pulling yourself towards the door frame with your feet on the ground.

I would say as in the starting, pulling up yourself gives problem and also pain to the body. So, do exercise step wise and do it till your body is supportable. Later on as you will become habitual, you can stretch your body more.

If and when you do try pullups, you start by doing negatives. Get yourself up into the top of the pullup position using assistance if required, and then drop slowly to full extension. Thats how you build into them.

If you are that stiff and immobile, would you consider yoga or pilates to begin with? Just some very simple moves to get yourself stretched out a bit?

I have an injured shoulder from rsi, hence the reluctance for pull ups. Yoga or pilates would be very helpful but also not an option fir me right now due to language and travel. I think i have found some good basic exercises which i can run past physio.

Im not very much into yoga either, but I know youtube can be wonderful for the basic stuff, and also for your core exercises. I can see why the plank is out if you have shoulder issues, but hyperextensions and glute bridges might be ok?
