Its outnow and looks to be more powerful.

I already have xbmc / kodi on a pi and as previous thread have stated its slow, but am looking forward to the differences there will be in navigating menus and add ons when i get my hands on a pi 2.

One question though, does xbmc / kodi have to alter their program to take advantage of the increased threads/processing power available or is it a case of just pop in the sdcard from what i currently have?

There was a mention of code having to be recompiled on the article featured with the BBC.

    http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-31088908
Existing software will need to be recompiled - meaning converted into a language the CPU understands - to take best advantage of the switch to the new multi-core processor.

I picked one up from the PiHut's eBay outlet this morning.

    http://stores.ebay.co.uk/The-Pi-Hut

Mention of Lubuntu working 'normally' on the Pi 2, interesting to see how things pan out for everyday browsing.

    Taken from Kodi.tv

    Rasberry Pi 2

The new and faster model Raspberry Pi 2 was just announced and we receive a lot of questions if Kodi will run on it. So yes of course Kodi will run on it. OpenELEC will shortly release a new build image for the new model based on Kodi 14.1 which will have full support for it out of the box.

Wonder what this can be overclocked to? 1.2GHz? I already have the originbal Pi 1 B running stable @ 900MHz without any additonal fans cooling etc.

Will it support outputting DTS and Dolby HD formats to a reciever? The first Pi couldn't pass these through which put me off....

The rest of the hardware was stated to be unchanged. So if it was a hardware limitation, more so than a software limitation (which I'd suspect may be the issue), then the answer is likely to be no.

I tried to buy one of these but the Parnell site asked me if I were a company or an individual. Once I said individual I was redirected to another site that wants 49 pounds for the damn thing!

    What a joke.

Any other place to buy one?

It is definitely faster when navigating.
Feels about right when I tried it on Live TV from the backend server with tuners.

One of the most noticeable changes is how quickly the EPG was populated.

So far (30 mins use) it is a huge improvement.

    Unit of sale: Each

No, it's a volume discount price, buy 5 and the price drops by a whopping 50 cent each.

The Pi Hut has a decent range and postage is reasonable which often makes a big difference when buying low cost stuff.

Lots of stuff also on ebay.co.uk either from the far east if you can bear the delivery times or from UK sellers.

I'm finding it fairly tricky to get a definitive answer on the "best" MicroSD card to be ordering for a Raspberry Pi 2.

There's a bit of debate whether a Class 10 card is necessarily the fastest, but rather any card with fast read/writes of 4k blocks.

Has anyone come across anything definitive?

Don't know if this helps from the Kodi RPi wiki page.
Use an SD card with good rewrite speeds. The class of the SD card doesn't always mean it will be faster, as that speed listing is for sustained reading and writing. For XBMC/Kodi random read/write speeds are more important. The class 4/6 Samsung SD cards sold on the Raspberry Pi Store (the ones with NOOBS on them) typically have much better performance than most class 10 cards. For more information about SD card speeds, check out this excellent thread on the R-Pi forum: http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=53159

Packaging is minimal if you order from the Pi-Hut through eBay. I don't have a problem with that. The parcel can be delivered through the average letterbox without you having to be at home.

    Package measures: 22mm x 115mm x 160mm

No retail packaging or paperwork of any kind. Just the Pi 2 itself, placed inside an anti static bag.

I'm using a rather nice 'modular' case manufactured by Cyntech. Retailers like modmypi.com would have you believe it's unique to their outlet, but it's not.

newit.co.uk have stock at the moment, through their site and eBay outlet.

    https://www.newit.co.uk/shop/all-raspberry-pi/Pi-Cases%20/CYNBplusBLK

modmypi.com are currently out of stock, but have the various covers, shrouds and extender plates.

Here it is as delivered, with the various (extra) covers visible. Screws are included, where needed.

Amalgam, that case is a thing of beauty. Very nice!

My own Rpi 2 arrived today... one question though as im not too sure what to do next, but i basically am going to use the newer faster rpi 2 to replace my B model running XBMC.

I think it not just a matter of swapping the sd card to the new pi, i remember reading that xbmc/kodi were due to release an update to take into account the upgraded power available from the pi or is it the new version of noobs i should be downloading and do a new fresh install?

depends on what OS you are using to run Kodi on really. As swapping an openelec image between pib and pi2 will not work as there was a specific version of openelec(v5.0.1 iirc) that enabled support for pi2 so you would have to do a fresh install and then restore the xbmc data to get things back to where they were before.
I am not sure what the situation is with other OS as I only use openelec.

I have mine up and running and I have to say it's super fast. Kinda stunnin to be honest but I digress. I loaded Kodi on it via OSMC. You will need a different download for the pi2 as its a different architecture. I used a class 10 sd mini card (Kingston 16gb) , emphasis on mini as I bought the wrong one first!

    https://osmc.tv/download/

That's the link. Just remember this is the installer, so you download a windows or Mac etc installer for the pc that is going to install on the sd card. Slot the sd card in your pc, remember the name of the mount or drive for windows. When running the installer point it at the sd card and 5 minutes later and 3 or 4 questions and you are finished!

Take the sd card out of the pic, put it in the pi2 and boot.

Mine boots in 12 seconds or so. Actually runs super fast. I did a review on Amazon on this. I think it's closer to my NUC than the older Pi!

The case I have is crap compared to amalgam above, it's a clear plastic one but since my Pi is hidden in a wall, doesn't matter so much to me.

I have IPTV working on mine, have not seen any issues with ad dons but I only have a few. I also set mine up for wired.

Only concern is OSMC is still late alpha. I have not seen any issue except hard coding an IP address (I use that to point my phone to Kodi for a remote) and having a fixed ip is far far easier.

Need a bit of assistance lads,

Like i said earlier, Pi 2 arrived from amazon and then copped - like Fallschirmjager mentioned - that it takes micro sd!

The only one i had to hand was a class 4 transend micro sd, so i used that to install openelec 5.0.5 for KODI as per instructions on site (using it as a HTPC in our sitting room and its wired connection to nas/router)

It took about a day and half to scan library metadata from NAS (about 1.3TB media). Im finding it slow to be honest. Menu navigating is better than my older pi B+ but only marginally and according to others on here and other forums i reckon mine should be way faster.

Would i be way better off buying a new class ten micro sd? - would my class 4 be the bottle neck regarding speed?

What would be the fastest way of basically copying the image from the class 4 card i have in it at the mo? (would prefer that if i did have to buy a new micro sd that i didnt have to spend another day and half scanning library metadata)

Also, have spotted good reports on class 10 samsung micro sd cards (prob get from amazon uk) but there are so many types - samsung pro/plus/evo - any recommendations from lads on here?

I would suggest using a USB stick for the data and that should show that the card is the bottleneck.

Do you mean use a usb stick for the whole operating system or just kodi data. And if so for just the kodi data how do i separate the kodi data to the stick? I haven't seen a guide on that yet.

Just for the data ...... for instance when using Openelec it uses two partitions, one for the OS files and another for the data which is 'Storage' mounted on /flash I think. (or used to be set up like that, have not check recently)

There should be lots of info about using a USB flash drive for the data storage.

This makes a huge difference due to the read/write speed of the flash stick compared to the SD card if the SD card is the bottleneck - particularly opening the library.

    EDIT
I haven't read this but it should be what you are asking about

Im only getting around to getting a usb key for this now, any idea if i should be looking at a usb3 key (knowing that the pi2 doesnt have usb 3 but for the keys fast speed)

Any previous experiences on what make/brand usb keys?

It is the speed of the read/write of the specific device that matters most, IMO.
I have seen claims that USB3 work faster even when connected to USB2 sockets.
I have one USB3 device here and it is noticeably slower in a USB2 connector than any of the USB2 devices I have.

So I cannot answer, sorry ..... but some of the dedicated R-Pi forums should have information about which devices worked best for users.

My Pi2 arrived on Monday. Absolutely amazed with it - performance is on par with my NUC. Using it with OpenElec for LiveTV, streaming over 5Ghz wireless, and it plays 1080p content without issue.

Had issue initially with low power warning but that turned out to be just a bad micro usb cable, swapped it out and working flawless since. Will do more testing in coming days but so far, am impressed by performance, and the price!!

I replaced the class 4 transend micro sd that i was using in the RPi2 with a Sandisk class 10 micro sd card.

What a difference - I should have waited until the class 10 arrived in the first place.

Its as fast a my sitting room HTPC. No Lag with menus and add ons load quick. Am well impressed with it.

Running openelec 5.0.7 and very happy with it. I was going to transfer the media data to an attached usb key on the pi2 as previously mentioned but no need for it now i reckon.

How is the new Pi with lossless Blu-ray MKV rips? I have a couple of the old Pi's and they are brutal trying to play a 30Gb MKV (over Ethernet from my Win7 fileserver). Can the new Pi's handle it?
