Where can I get a cheap bike in Dublin? One that works well enough to cycle of course, but I don't want to pay loads of money for one.

You could try DoneDeals or Adverts for second hand.

Rothar also second hand bikes and recondition them so that they are as good as new. But you're starting at about 250 there.

There is also adverts in the cycling forum, but it seems to be more higher end components.

A cheap bike is a false economy, so definitely go secondhand. Or could you do the bike to work scheme.

I have bought several bikes online from the UK for myself and friends, but you have to build them yourself, though some like wiggle will sell fully assembled. These were all €400+ though, but huge savings compared to here.

I would advise getting a hybrid bike, a racer is unsuitable for many cycletracks here, and a mountain bike is sluggish and inefficient. The hybrids are a sort of cross between the 2, some more like racers, some more like mountain bikes.

Ah ya, I'm not looking for anything fancy or expensive. Just as a means of transportation really. Thanks for the info!

Or...hop on a train and buy a bike a ton cheaper than in Dublin.

For transport, consider good lights, mudguards and a rack. If lock up isn't secure don't buy a thief magnet.
If your route isn't hilly a single speed for low maintenance is also an option.

BTW your in the wrong forum!
