Coming up on the show this week, Michael Harding will be in to discuss his upcoming role in John B Keane’s ‘The Field’ and his new memoir “Hanging with the Elephants” which is about love, loss and meditation. Ireland’s top model, Roz Purcell, will be talking about how she changed her life for the better through food after the demands of an international modelling career caused her to fall ill. Paul Kimmage will be in to discuss life after being vindicated about cycling and how his focus has shifted to the game of rugby. Jacob Billsborough and Simon Tierney will be talking about their crippling OCD disorder ahead of their RTE documentary ‘OCD and Me’. Music on the night will be performed by Dublin band The Statics with their song “Hidden Pidgeon”. Tune in at 9.40pm and enjoy!!

    Thanks WM,

I'm standing outside Donnybrook where the atmosphere is tense, and the rumour mill is in overdrive. The unprecedented events of the last week have led to wild speculation as to who will fill the Presenters Chair tonight.

At this point in time there is no sign of Brendan O'Connor, Joe Duffy, Ray Darcy, Gay Byrne or any other likely hosts. Twink did appear demanding entry to the Television Centre, but usually reliable sources tell me that she does this most days until Security removes her.

if we are to believe the official line from RTE, Brendan O'Connor is still expected to host tonight's programme, but that could all change if a rumoured last minute fitness test goes against him.

More from this extended Slingwatch Update as the story develops.

Back to you in the studio, WM.

I could happily listen to Michael Harding for the whole show. Paul Kimmage is a good guest too - a bit of a bollocks, but fascinating to listen to. More admirable than likeable.

I hate the whole 'top Irish model' thing. Not being a Sunday Independent reader, I've never heard of any of them.

I'm not a fan of Michael Harding or his Kevin McAleer tribute act... But Kimmage is always entertaining.

    Dedication indeed, Skid!

Fingers crossed it's Brendan, (hope he is okay either way), and that it will be Brendan for many many Saturday nights ahead.

Harding, Kimmage and the section on living OCD will be quite interesting. Not too interested in Roz Purcell, but you can't have it every way. Nevertheless thats quite the decent line up for tonight.

Hee hee, the thread is already great today.

Much better guest list than some of the recent ones. Great to see Paul Kimmage on. An actual interesting person! Wow!

    Looking forward to it.

    :-)

    Decent line-up this evening!

I'm a fully signed up member of the Michael Harding Appreciation Society too ;) It's a real pleasure to read his Irish Times columns, his books and his one man show is a very entertaining night out.

Looking forward to Paul Kimmage too, he is a interesting character in the same way as Roy Keane is. He is fiery, principled and controversial but he's always interesting. When I heard he was dropped as Brian O'Driscoll's ghostwriter I was very disappointed for him. However, having read the book, I think he had a lucky escape. In my opinion, it's one of the safest and (possibly) dullest sports auto-biographies to be released last year (and I like Brian).

I think that sums him up well. I wouldn't like to be working in the same office as him, but he has done some great work.

Haven't seen this Nicky Byrne million euro rubbish since last time I whinged about it on here.

    Just flicked in to it.

    Pick a number...

    Why 27?
    It's my birthday
    ...

    Pick another number...
    18
    Why 18?
    My brother's birthday.

    You got a zero!

    Jesus wept.

Thanks to Alan Partridge at the sports desk there...gooooooo, Sea Hawks!

And now back to Skid for a Slingwatch update! :D

WM, I can confirm that Brendan is in the building and barring another fall he looks set to defy the odds and take his usual position on the SNS stage.

Will the Painkillers cause him to lose the power of speech? - It so, that would be a serious blow, as the ability to talk is considered a key skill for Television Presenters. Our Medical Correspondent Dr Nick Riviera told me earlier that, and I quote "Brendan might not have the patience to listen to that little bollix Kimmage for very long, and it might get nasty."

It promises to be a Show not to miss, unless you are Joe Duffy.

And so, with the stretched twig of Chat at melting point, it's back to you WM.

There's something to be said for structure.

This will be less "introduction, middle, conclusion" and more "middle, middle, middle".

There is a lot of truth in what Michael is saying about living in and appreciating the present. I know I'm sometimes guilty of worrying about things that I've no control over or might never happen anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,337 ✭✭✭✭monkey9

He's drunk, depressed and at this stage, boring. RTE are certainly promoting this fella for some reason.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,052 ✭✭✭Un Croissant

    Oh is that me?

Hur, hur, hur. Great banter altogether.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,963 ✭✭✭Meangadh

I actually think he could be great being the Bull. I reckon he's one of those people who's more comfortable being someone else and getting into character.
