SD card memory recovery software suggestions?

    I'm travelling in South America at the moment. While transferring over Tao folders of pictures from the SD (1GB, 1.5GB) card to the laptop the second folder will now not view. Where there should be 300-400 photos there is now just one file (which seems to be the correct size for the 300-400 photos).
    I think the laptop might have tried to run the folder as a slideshow and confuse the folder?
    I've looked up as much informationi can find on slow internet on my phone I.e. don't over write the space etc.
    But I would like advice on the best recovery software or suggestions to a link find the recovery detail. There are so many out there and internet is so slow here I only want to download one.
