This was on the front page of Buzzfeed today.

In addition, one friend has been praising this to the heights for ages. But she's a woman. Im a man. Will I still get into it? The title of the show has scared away many males before they even want to know more Id say.

Is it great? I love a great drama. Shows like The West Wing for example. Ive a couple of comedies I watch weekly but havent found a drama as good as Breaking Bad since it ended.

Are there many fans of it on here?

Brilliant show. Never seen the west wing so I can't compare them. Netflix has the first 4 seasons

    It's a great show.
Mrs ox started watching it in season 1 while I tutted behind a newspaper.
Didn't take me long to start watching it myself though.
    Great casting, writing and storylines.
It has dipped slightly this season (season 6) but the first 4 or 5 seasons are highly recommended.

    Same here.

Herself started watching it and I got sucked in.

Ely is one of the better characters on TV - he should get a spinoff!

Yeah, surprised when I read that. Maybe too highbrow for the standard American reality TV fan or something.

Yes. It's outstanding. And it references real events that are happening. The most recent episode (US pace) referenced both Ferguson and The Fappening.

Apart from the lead has it got eye candy?

It's no Breaking Bad, but then it doesn't try to be, it's something completely different. I'm really enjoying it, it's partly a courtroom drama series, but the family storyline gives it a sense of continuity from episode to episode. We started watching it recently and have just passed the halfway mark of season one. It's probably not necessary to say that it was my wife's idea, but I'm glad she suggested it :)

    Oh, 'ox'. Not 'sox'...

I've been reading your posts as if from 'furious socks' for quite some time now! I often wondered why your socks were enraged. :D

Anyway. Back on topic. Yep, op. Pretty good show. Worth a watch.

House of Cards might be worth a look too if your looking for new TV fodder. We on season two here.
Got into the Good Wife too, Xmas disrupted my viewing! Must get back to it.

There is a bisexual PI played by Archie Panjabi and they is many guest stars over the seasons

It is a great show, highly recommend

It's consistently good. Unlike some of the overhyped shows that last one season and run out of ideas this one keeps burning.
And yes, it has lesbians in.

its a solid show but like most 20+ episode network shows there's a lot of filler. 7/10 for me

Oh. It has 20 plus episodes per season?

I didnt think any drama shows still did that. This might change things for me as 6 x 24 is quite a bit of time to invest unless its West Wing standard.

its no west wing for sure. I do like it but I wouldn't be disappointed if it finished this season

It's West Wing season 6/7 standard, not season 1-4 standard.

Watch season 1 and make a call on watching the rest of it then.
It's more character based at the moment but the first few seasons were legal wrangling/courtroom based.
There was some great acting, great storylines and very clever writing.

Its a great show, it has a snappiness to it that keeps you interested while still having some well rounded and memorable characters.

I`d certainly recommend it. Its not in the top echelon of shows but what it does have going for it, which is rare, is the quality hasnt dropped in any of the seasons.

Definitely recommended. When it's good, it's really good. While I wouldn't agree with this seasons (season 6) story arch been it's finest moment, it's still a very strong show. Fantastic acting all round tbh.

I'm tempted to watch it using this as a guide until I get hooked.

Your Official Guide to Binge Watching The Good Wife

The idea of getting properly stuck into a full 125 episodes of TV just seems to daunting.

Can anyone who's p to date endorse the above?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭ElNino

Is that guide suggesting that you just watch 5 episodes per season? If it is then that is daft as you will miss three quarters of the story line and not be able to follow the character progression properly. Just start from the beginning and watch them in order no matter how long it takes. it is one of my favourite shows so I highly recommend it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,297 ✭✭✭✭Jawgap

Seasons 1 to 5 are now available on Netflix (1 to 4 were there, but now they've added 5)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,133 ✭✭✭FloatingVoter

I jumped in midway between season 3 and 4. The torture of binge-watching 3 seasons of a TV show is I'm told not comparable to working for a living.

I tried 3 episodes of this last night and found it to be just ok. But there's too much great TV and films around to just watch things that are "ok".

My main disappointment is the "case of the week" format it takes. This kind of stuff hasnt belonged in quality TV Drama since The Sopranos changed the game in 1999.

Once you strip away the back story of "the wife putting on a brave face after powerful husband has an affair" then that's all it really is: yet another legal Drama and Suits does it far, far better.

I understand that season 5 is among the best seasons of any TV show of the past ten years. It's meant to be incredible. But Im not going to sit through 90+ episodes to get to it. I also read that after 4 seasons or so the legal case stuff goes away, but again Im not going to sit through yet another procedural show to get to it.

Thanks for the replies, but this is not for me.

I feel the same about Person of Interest. shorter seasons with less filler be better. supernatural is another I tired of due to the long seasons

Me and the hubby both love the Good Wife. It doesn't have mega thrilling OMG what's gonna happen next episodes but each episode is consistently excellent and solid. You come away feeling satisfied that you've watched a great piece of tv and are looking forward to the next one. Highly recommended.

Have to disagree, I don't think there's much filler at all, every minute of the show has me glued!

I think maybe my taste in TV is too high and Ive been spoiled with The Sopranos etc.

Great show, it has maintained the quality through the years for the most part.

However like all good things, i think they should be planning the end-game story and developing it to that sooner rather than later.

    Later seasons it does.

As for the case of the week, 3 episodes in it's only setting up the characters etc, there's plenty of story arcs spreading across seasons.
