Expected weight loss

    Hey all,
    40yo male, 81kg here.

I was on a healthy buzz this January after a nice bout of eating and drinking in December. Was 82.5kg at start of Jan and watching my diet and exercise, I expected to get down to about 80k, but stuck at 81.

Using myfitness pal, it reckoned 1720 calories a day would lose me 0.5kg a week (so it's putting my base need at about 2300), or about 1.5kg month to date. I've stuck to that and on top of it I've done 140km running which I reckoned would shift another 1.5kg, so down to 80 or just below.

Apart from measurement errors, any thoughts on why I'd have only shed 1.5kg versus expected 3kg ?
I weight myself same time in the mornings and the body fat % is relativley consistent with the weight loss.

    Ta,
    F.

It could be sleep or stress. It could be that the weight loss estimate was a little ambitious.

But the key thing is you've lost 1.5kg in a few weeks. It's going in the right direction.

Weight loss isn't that exact. It may look like you are not losing few weeks according to the scales, and suddenly scales show 2kg down in one week. In reality the loss is the result of the effort during the 3 weeks, it's just sometimes doesn't show on consistent intervals.... If this make sense.

Keep up the good work - well done

As mentioned above, as long its going in the right direction for your eventual goal its good.

A host of factors could slow or alter your weight over that period. low fibrous meals or slow moving stool, bloating, water retention, hydration, hormones, sickness, body composition etc.

Its not exact and everyone will react a little different depending on the person, metabolism etc. Once you are below maintenance , weight will come off.

My friend set a high 3kg a month and would not take any dissuading, he was disappointed and demotivated when he did not reach the goal the second month around, and ended putting the original 3kg back on. His new "program" was not really maintainable, it focused on a ambitious short term goal instead of life long healthy choices.

Weight loss should not be rushed, gradual steady fat loss should be what you are aiming for. You will be more likely to keep it off by developing good habits , than by loosing lots quickly then taking your foot off the pedal once you are there.

Its hard to get it that accurately as well, down to a kg.

Weight varies by a kg or slightly more, between night and morning for the average person, being lighter in the morning than going to bed at night.
