If you heard him saying it, I presume you're a teacher, a pupil or a parent. If you're a teacher or parent, talk to him about the possibility of using more appropriate language. If you're a pupil, talk to your parents.

It's not the most suitable language but it's hardly homophobic although certainly highly inappropriate. Children should not be spoken to in that manner.

It's the same as telling somebody with depression to "man up" and get on with life.

Talk to him yourself. Tell him what he's doing is wrong and tell him why. If you know yourself...

Principal says 'man up and play football' to a child. OP labels the child as effeminate and probably gay so decides the headmaster is inappropriately speaking to the child.
