Basically I'm looking to take up a new hobby and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

What do you want to get from it? New buddies, education, something to show for it?

    Sewing is a nice one.
Aldi, lidl or done deal often have sewing machines very reasonably, or you can start by hand.
It's very relaxing, and productive. I love it.

Woodturning I like as well, uses up old bits of wood. Makes nice things.

Charity? Use your existing skills for something new. Coast guard or search and rescue if you are good at navigation. Community clean-ups. Dogs home, charity bake sales.

Woodcarving is another relaxing one. An old favourite like knitting maybe? Or floristry which you could make a little money from? Then there are all the physical/social ones - swimming, bowls, tennis, running, even walking.

Cooking is a great one, and it means you can invite people over to sample the results!
Joining a book club, great for the social side of it as well as reading things you wouldn't think of yourself.

If you have any interest in current affairs and your local community, think about joining whatever political party is closest to your value system. With the upcoming elections, they will be interested in all the help they can get. You'll meet new people, and you might even make the world, or your county, or your village a better place along the way.

it depends what you're into - are you sporty? intellectual? shy? artistic? I'd also recommend checking out meetup.com - there's heaps of hobby ideas on there :-)

Do you want it to be social or solitary?

If you like to write, maybe blogging? Or even poetry?

If you have a house and you can afford one, get a pet! :) I have a dog and a cat and they do keep you busy and happy (especially the dog!)

A good way to start chatting to people in the parks and on the road too.

    Dress making.
