I find myself browsing boards an awful lot, on the train, on the can, in bed, in work, before gym, lunch break etc.

How long per week do you spend on boards, is it a problem and do you have fun?

Do other people know you are on boards and try work out which user you are?

    Feed me information

It's a nice easy way to pass the time travelling alright. Or just when bored.

Yeah - I could end up goosed if I'm not careful. It can be fierce interesting, though.

In fairness, most of the time on forums (other than ah) the discussions and chats are of a good standard

True, and some discussions throw up genuinely useful information, i.e. discussing potential purchases with peeps who have previously made same purchase, etc

    Yup, boards addict.

Thank god I'm not the only one!
Long time browser but only fairly recent poster. I enjoy it but some things really annoy me.
    - the preachiness of some people.
    - how fairly innocent statements get lost in translation and come across wrong
    - how some people are so angry and are lookin for a feckin argument all the time.

Overall though I love boards a little too much. Housework is suffering!

Three regular sites I use on the train home in the most used order are:

    Boards
    Listverse
    Facebook

Mostly just refreshing boards and talking to the computer geeks in the PC forum :)

I do find myself on here almost as much as Facebook and that's saying a lot.

I read stuff on here more than I post I think, always find it really good for a laugh, a lot of the posters on here are hilarious.

An addiction would be glued to the forum constantly refreshing, refreshing, refreshing. I look at the topics when I'm home or on a lunch break (the latter being a quick glance), see what topics are of interest and, when possible, reply to those or whatever ones I follow that have been updated. Apart from lunch breaks, I don't look at this at all during work, so I'm certainly not addicted :)Still, I thoroughly enjoy the forums and the contributions made by the posters.

I joined boards in 2011 and I mostly just lurked but not very often and I didn't post very much at all, very sporadically. Recently though I've been posting with alarming frequency and spending far too much time refreshing, refreshing, refreshing. My OH is not impressed. She is a boards widow.

Nope, but it can be a decent source of information (especially if you're an outsider). :)

It's like eavesdropping, oddly compelling, but something I shouldn't do so much of.

ETA: I just realised what a beautiful word eavesdropping is. It's lovely.

Nah, I just have a low boredom threshold and there is always something interesting happening here.

It is the perfect platform to waste time in a sense. Too many sites and forums are Americanised, but boards is perfect for us due to it being obviously Irish which makes it very appealing. I love the site for the most part, some forums here are ideal, but I wouldn't say I am addicted. When I am busy I can easily stay off the site while I would still visit sports websites and dare I say it Facebook.

    I go through phases.

When I find myself peppering conversations with real-life people with anecdotes from Boards that I have to pretend I 'heard on the radio', I take a step back for a while.

Just bought an e-Reader which is taking up far more of my time as I love it.

The best way to judge someone on the amount of time they spend on here is by their number of posts per day.

He has an average of 8.73 posts per day.

You have an average of 18.92.

You're new, though; you'll probably post less as time goes on. It's the long-term members with a high post per day rate that are the biggest addicts/losers on Boards.

I'd really miss boards if I didn't have internet access, it's the site I visit the most.

I suppose I am addicted to the internet.

In the past you had to fire up the PC and make do with dial up, but now with smart phones and tablets, you're always online....like now almost 2 in the morning.

Ffs, I need to cop the f&#k on...

Check it a good few times a day, I get really annoyed when there are no interesting threads to read.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,816 ✭✭✭Day Lewin

I'm addicted to the Internet in general, and Boards is in the top half-dozen of my favourite bookmarks.

Always good for a laugh and a great place to look for local information, too.

So, yeah, sort of. Could give it up anytime I like, though.

I'll bring a big table and a teddy for the speakers to hold.

And some booze to speed things along.

It's good for catching up on all the news back home, find out what people are talking about in the pub, what kind of messed up attitudes are hidden in the lovely pleasant people you might walk passed on a busy Irish street.

It's also good for opinion-forming. I've often found myself surprised at an overpowering view I never knew I had on something until some boardsie comes along and says something absolutely moronic and unbelievably bull****ty about something. And then I'll get into a heated debate for a few pages til it's time for dinner or the gym or work gets busy and I'll just stop replying coz I can't be arsed.

You're not allowed to do that in real life. To get yourself committed and embroiled in a passionate debate about something and then just feck off coz dinner's ready. I like that about boards.

And the belly laughs from AHs from time to time.

Ah Television was once my great passion a long time ago. Now it mostly comprises of News or crappy shows. The future is DVD's, the OnDemand sometimes throws up a odd good film but the days of constant TV are behind us. The Internet will never be as good as TV in its heyday of the 90's and 00's but at least DVD's are still around.
