26 arrested following complaints of a scam targeting elderly people. You'd have to wonder do these people have any kind of moral compass at all. Luckily for the Austrailians they can just deport the kants. Unfortunately for older people in Ireland they will no doubt be back in business in no time!

Lovely. I thought we'd stopped deporting our convicts to Australia.

Some Aussie in a hostel bar prob shouted "the drinks are on the house", cue the hoors scrambling on to the roof for some VB tinnies.

With a bit of luck there are no Xboxes in Billabong Prison.

Oh great, now the alleged members of the 'ethnic minority' grouping will be back here. Scamming people with roofing jobs, and the State with their multiple social welfare claims. Allegedly of course, as one wouldn't want to be called racist now.

A woman from the tourist park said the Irish families were “lovely to deal with” but changed her mind after hearing about the alleged involvement in the roof scam.
“Thank God they’re gone,” she told Fairfax media.

    Trial by media....

Probably the same lads that were going around selling clapped out generators to old folk over there a couple of years ago.

How is it trial by media? According to the article, 39 complaints were made against them, and money and other items were recovered.

Do you think that all criminals are nasty in real life? Why would she want suspected criminals on her premises? She's dead right. I know it's alleged they were involved; don't think they would have left if they were innocent.

I know a lady who was victim of said scammers, she was a neighbor of mine, living alone vulnerable. They called claiming she made major isssues, with her roof, unsolicited of course. Poor dear ran down to the atm and got the pigs money. Well to say I was hopping was an understatment.
A few months later we say a fella on her roof from a neighbours living room window. One of the group went over to talk to him, and he just told her he was "Checking the tiles" We had her call into the house leaving via the back. Turns out he had told her that the other fella, was s a con artist, of course he was the real deal. Apparent she had no eaves on her roof any more.

We had the lady stay in the house while we took care of matters. She was a batty old dear, who is now in a nursing home, so no more fear of her being scammed like this. We had the guards come out for a word. We were really lucky, that he was smoking a spliff. It gave them grounds to search him. He had a list of house to hit. Turned out, this guy or one of his ilk had already gotten money out of our neighbour three times.

    They are being deported .
im not here to say wether they are or not guilty

just to be mindful of the whipping up of media storm ,just take a look at the above comments(and the ones below no doubt)

Some of the above is disgusting and harks back to the days of old when the old tar and feathers came out

All I know is that they are Irish and this will further damage the image of Irish people in Australia. People need to be responsible for their actions; they are primarily responsible for the ensuing "media storm". One of the Australian politicians referred to them as itinerant tradesmen or something along those lines; that line will resonate in Ireland. To the majority of the Australians, all they will remember is that they are Irish, and tar all Irish people out there with the same brush.

There would seem to be quite a lot of skullduggery going on, see link to report of an Irish run building contractors. In a nut shell bringing people out from Ireland with the promise of jobs and treating them like crap then scamming to get them visas to stay.....allegedly

Stop being wilfully blind. There is nothing unfair about how these people are being treated. They are organised criminals who found an unsuspecting market in Australia. Just because what people are saying is unpalatable to you, doesn't mean it's wrong.

Unfortunately they'll be back here in no time pulling the same stung and bleating on about their "culture".

Oh I doubt it! They'll return suitably chastised and get jobs in a FT 500 company.

It's not necessarily travellers. One of those rogue traders programmes covered this scam in the UK and very few of the people at it were travellers. One group was caught on camera sending a guy up to look at the roof who then proceeded to start kicking tiles to get them loose or break in half.

Lovely people altogether. I'm sure in their minds they convince themselves that it's OK because these old dears rattling around in their empty houses have loads of money squirreled away and can afford to hand over a few hundred dollars.

Oz for the wasters, Canada for the grafters, so they say...

I agree though. Visiting 'County' Bondi in Sydney was the only time in my life I have been utterly humiliated to be Irish. It really opens your eyes to see the pond life and dregs from every ****ehole sink estate and farm yard in Ireland swapping STD's in one small geographical area. I would even go so far as to say it altered my views on abortion.

    working holiday visas.

Not according to the Indo -

"“All were found to be in Australia on lawfully held visas, however, they were found to be working on visas with strict ‘no work’ conditions,” a statement said."

    http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/twenty-four-irish-to-be-kicked-out-of-australia-over-scam-30930812.html

Can we have these people photographed at the airport and pics published in all newspapers so as the law abiding public of Ireland can see their faces and be aware of them?

Sounds apt enough. I highly doubt they ever broke those terms either. If they did, it'd be a first.
